This was a problem I was having for a few days, one that I became really annoyed with. This also gives light to some compatibility issues with CS:S and Win7_64b. Few may have this problem, but after surfing the interweb and finding many complaints I have decided to share with you, my fellow EGO members, the fix.
NOW KEEP IN MIND, YOU MUST BE RUNNING WINDOWS 7 WITH A DUAL MONITOR DISPLAY FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.
[Problem] After loading a server, CS:S would freeze at the main screen, i.e. the screen with the IE ad and the OK button the precedes choosing your team. Not only would it freeze, the game enters a sound loop as well, where the sound that occurs at the moment of the problem repeats continuously until the game is exited. The only way to get back to my desktop was to Ctrl-Alt-Del to task manager, force quit CS multiple times, until the game finally crashed, revealing a pop-up saying HL2.exe stopped responding.
It turns out that there is a compatibility issue between CS:S's display rendering and the display settings/characteristics of Windows 7 64b when using dual monitors. Hopefully Valve updates the source engine/CS:S for full compatibility with Windows 7 soon :/
[FIX]
1. Locate Program_files/steam/steamapps/"user_name"/counterstrikesource
2. Right click HL2.exe (not the folder), and open up properties
3. Under the compatibility tab, check the checkbox for "disable desktop composition"
4. Make sure you apply and click ok
5. Kill some terrorists!
