New old computer... attempting to fix

Hullo,
Soo i acquired a computer(actually 3) from my girlfriends dad. 2 of them run fine, but the other one no so well. After purchasing RAM for it i decided to turn it on and give it a whirl. It turns on, for a few seconds. After that it just turns itself off. Its not the power supply as i just tried another one. If i unplug the CPU power cord, the fan for the CPU and whole computer will turn on and stay on. Anyone know what might be wrong...? Any help would be awesome...

Does the mobo seam to have wear?

Is it an Intel Chip-Set?

Nope no Bios. literally runs for a few seconds. the intel pentium 4 blue screen pops up then it goes to a white cursor blinking then off.

I'm actually not sure how old it is. Sorry but its running xp Professional with DDR RAM.
I'm not sure what a mobo seam is.. sorry

Well, there is quite a large array of things that could be wrong if the bios doesn't even load up. Could be the chipset, CPU, RAM, Bios chip itself, but it sounds like the gpu is fine since it displays the pentium logo. .

Hes asking does it seem to have wear (as in does it look like it has wear or damage)......he spelled seem incorrectly as seam(like in a shirt) I can see how you would make that mistake lol. Maybe featherfoot is starting to speak stormy (hubnt!)?

oh lol.. from what i can tell it doesn't look like its got wear and tear (not visible at least) it was used as a business computer. lol um I'm pretty sure the RAM is fine because i just bought it and b4 when there wasn't any it did the RAM error code

also just timed it and it stays on for 13 seconds not sure if thats any help

You said it stayed on when you pulled the GPU or graphic card out right?

um it has an on board graphics card... but if i pull out the CPU power plug the fans do stay on until i turn off the power

sorry meant just the fans (from what i can see at least) turn on keyboard does turn on

nope GPU is fine.. put in a video card different screen (bios) popped up at start but still turns off

well right now i'm in the process of taking the motherboard out to see if its shorting out lol

Alright ITS FIXED... my heatsink's frame had a broken corner so it wasn't against the CPU enough so it was overheating its fixed with 2 zip ties lol
