Fan Mounts Question

Alrite.....so i am going to be buying a Noctua NH-D14, but i am going to replace the 120mm fan while adding a 120mm fan.

I am going to get the Cooler Master R4 red LED fan. It does 90 CFM at roughly 20 something db.

The problem i have is mounting it to the heatsink. I will only have one fan clip that comes with the NH-D14 from the NF-P12 i am taking off. So i need a way to mount the 2nd 120mm fan onto it. The NH-D14 comes with vibration dampeners but i think those are for the case and im guessing i can't use them to mount the fan onto the heatsink.

So, how do i mount the fan onto the NH-D14...please don't say something like zip-ties, i want a legit way like the rubber things that come with most heatsinks or the fan mounts/brackets that come with it.

don't replace the fans. they have a higher cfm than any fan that size.

and the heatsink comes with 2 metal brackets that hold the fans onto the heatsink.

the little dampener strips are adhesive on one side and you basically tape them to the heatsink and then the fans go on top of that and it reduces vibrations

umm no.....the noctua fans only have high CFM for their noise. The CM fans have 90 cfm airflow, which is a lot more than the Noctuas.

Yes i know the heatsink comes with 2 brackets.......but i wanna run 3 fans on it, where can i find another fan bracket/clip for the Noctua or those rubber things meant for attaching fans onto the heatsink

buy another one?

If they still sell it the NH-U12P has the same brackets and strips.

Just checked the specs.. I coulda sworn those noctua's had better flow.. lol Looks like I'll be replacing mine..

haha im definitely not gonna buy a whole new heatsink for one........they should definitely make an accessory or something like some of the other companies. W/E ill figure out a way.

Yea the Noctua fans are high quality but they are engineered for Performance/Noise. They basically push the most CFM for the amount of noise they make which is basically nothing.

On my NH-D14 im gonna be putting the 2 Cooler Masters on the outsides and leave the stock 140mm fan in the middle.

Also replacing my HAF 932 side panel fan with 4 of the Cooler Master fans. Out goes the 230mm in comes 4x120mm. Gonna have some epic improvements in case airflow hopefully.....4x90CFM vs 1x110CFM

Yeah I did the same with my HAF932, even replaced the top fan with 3x of those. Dropped my motherboard temp by 5-6C or so (was 38C, now 32-33C). Got some noticeable improvements, when I blow smoke through the side it is dissipated so quickly I barely see any of it swirl inside.

I really need to reseat this NH-U12P and change the direction of the fans.. My temps are horrible lol

Try calling Noctua customer support and see if you can get another bracket or something? They should be willing to help. And didn't you have any extra of those rubber strips? The ones that came with mine were too long and I ended up cutting about 40% of them off to be flush with the heatsink

I actually didn't get it yet but i noticed this problem before i even bought it. Im hopefully going to be ordering all my parts on Sunday and put it together like next friday.

Im selling my current setup to a friend but i guess ill secretly just take the rubber things that mount the fan to the heatsink from it before i sell it so that i can use it on my own. Ill just replace it with zip-ties for him lmao :P

As for you. You also replaced your top 230mm with 3 of the Cooler master LED ones??? IMHO they are expensive....9 of them would cost me like $81

What LED fans do u recommend that are still good but cheaper and provide about the same performance?

you sly dog you

believe me those are excellent fans and WELL worth 9 bucks. i won't buy another fan again

yea im making sure i get the correct one.

newegg lists it correctly.......only the blue one is 69 CFM

Well its good to hear some nice reviews about it. Im gonna pick me up around 6 of them :) just replace the side panel and the Noctua 120mm as i stated.

Red to match my HAF 932 :P

if you're going to run 6 it does get a little noisy (depending what you consider noisy). i have 4 running and 3 scythe slimwhatevers and my case makes a good hum. to me its music to my ears, and if i really want to i can easily unplug the 2 side case fans (the CM ones) and the sound then becomes pretty unnoticeable

I don't recommend anything but the highest cfm pushing beasts I can get my hands on, if it pushes less air don't buy it.

In my old setup I had 6x Vantec Tornados, one of the highest cfm pushing fans of it's era. I'm used to a loud tower, I like to be able to hear when my computer is working hard at whatever it's doing.. (same with my car, custom exhaust) if I hear nothing something is wrong and I feel out of place!

hahaha i agree somewhat..........yea im pushing for more CFM right now

Im most likely just gonna upgrade the side panel fans because the top one is fine. I don't really wanna dish out like $81 just for fans either when the case already has such amazing airflow. I would rather put that money into another hard drive for RAID 0 or like a gaming keyboard cuz the one im using is a dell one from like 8 years ago lmao.

Also need to save up for my next big and last upgrade. THE GPU!!!

hmm should i get RED CM fans or the Green ones??

I have a HAF 932, it is currently red........i can either keep the red going throughout the case or go for like a christmas thing and have red and green lol.....red from the front 230mm and green for the rest lol

i think the red and green would look terrible IMO, however the leds in those fans are not the greatest. it doesn't really light up the fan blades and look like a circle of colour, its just kinda 4 lines that shoot down across the fan.

also ya if you want monster CFM you could shell out like 50 bucks per fan and get thsoe 250 cfm monsters, but they are almost always 120x120x38 instead of 25. lets see if i can find one on newegg.

cheaper than i thought, or than they used to be anyway...but ya 64 dba for 1 fan is crazy.

but do the math to those CM fans, 90 cfm for 19 dba, meaning for 250 cfm it would be equivalent to 52.78 dba. so the CM basically has the same punch as one of those amazing fans except 25mm wide and even quieter.
