So today i went to Microcenter.....picked up a i7 920 D0 batch# 3941B047. Hopefully it overclocks really well, will let you know when i get the rest of my parts which i also just ordered today.

So today i ordered like $550 worth of parts.

EVGA 3x SLI, Noctua NH-D14, OCZ 6gb DDR3 1600 i7, 6xCM R4 red LED fans

Stupid me..........i accidently bought the recertified version of the motherboard :facewall: i thought i was saving like $20 and was like "OMG THEY LOWERED THE PRICE" to my friend.......of course im an idiot and just skimmed the name and didn't see recertified until now like 30 mins after we ordered it. I feel that its gonna be way too much of a hassle to cancel the order and re-do it because my friends dad helped us order it with his credit card and i don't wanna be a pain.

So hopefully the MOBO ain't F***** up and works nice and smooth......zzzz im not gonna be getting the accessories like the TRI-SLI bridge and stuff :facewall:

You shouldn't worry too much about it being recertified, because they spend alot of time testing to make sure everything works properly. And, if it is, an RMA with EVGA would take 2 weeks tops.

yea..........i probably shouldn't be too worried, and the accessories aren't worth that much either, EVGA gives crap accessories anyway. As long as the motherboard backplate is there then i can use it straight away and im fine. Seems to be included according to pictures of recertified version.

I'm pretty sure they come with the backplate.

The real question is, is it the right one to match the board :P

And you'll probably get a few accessories and of course the drivers.

it comes with CD for drivers but i don't think it comes with any accessories.....read somewhere too that it only came in the white box with CD and backplate, nothing else.

Basically got the same setup for my dad. i7 920, eVGA 3x SLI x58 LE, and Noctua NH-D14.

yea man.....our setup FTW

I hope nothing comes DOA and everything will work out fine without dying on me.....i would get really angry if something died on me

The recertified 790i's and 780i's don't come with a northbridge fan and you cant get them even from EVGA.

yea i heard about that....the fan on this northbridge is built in though so its fine. Doesn't come as an accessory.

Basically, everything i need to physically run the motherboard is included

What do you mean our setup?! It's my dad's. He's going to be using this rig to check his emails at most. :P

yup.......very good processor to overclock

My batch might not be the best though, requires like 1.34 or something around that for 4.0ghz+ but im not certain about this

I've seen some do like 4.2ghz on 1.29v and stuff

Will test it when i get all my stuff on Friday and post a new thread on it :)

If you are overclocking to extremes like 4.0 and higher, you are wasting your money and time. When you get in to the ranges of 4.0+, you start to see diminishing returns. To put it in gaming standards, 2.6-3.0, you would see about a 5-15 fps improvement depending on your video card/s and ram. 2.6-4.0 you would see an incread of 10-25 fps depending on your video card/s.

This is where you see the major dropoffs. At this point, you will see very little difference in your gaming experience. Plus I would not recommend running an i7 920 past a 4.0 ghz.

One thing I will recommend, get a cheap card now, and wait for the GF100s to come out. Currently the radeon 5000 series is smoking the GTX200 series. The single core 5870 beats out the dual core 295 in some scenarios. The dual core 5970 beats out or equals the 295 in all scenarios.

lol???
why do you recommend not going past 4.0ghz if its possible and easily achieved?? especially with a Noctua NH-D14

And yea.........i know the performance of the cards, a 5970 absolutely wrecks a GTX 295 in every situation, GTX 295 doesn't come close

Here I am trying to get 4.9ghz to post long enough to get a screenshot. Always trying to get faster.

Oh and the recent Farcry benchmarks are showing 5970's to be about 20-25% faster than the Fermi.

Yea....need for speed :)

And yes.....5970 is apparently 20-25% faster than the fastest single Fermi GPU. Seems to be expected, kinda doubted a single chip was gonna beat a dual-chip solution this gen.

And ATI has something up their sleeve for when Fermi comes out, its gonna be a refresh of the 58xx like the 4890 was when their sales start to slow down after Fermi is released.......Nvidia's delay is going to really cost them big time, especially if this secret card is gonna be even better.
