Hello, I need help with Day of Defeat source.. It started happening randomly and not that often, but now I can't join any server without the game IMMEDIATELY freezing with the sound getting stuck and looping when I join a server, at the motd..

I've tried everything from defraging the cashe files to completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game, multiple times. I've updated my graphics drivers, tried restarting steam over and over, restarting the pc, etc. and I'm just out of ideas.

I've searched the web for hours trying to find a solution, but all I can find is people trying to get the same help, to no prevail.

Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated, especially because it's my favorite online game..

Please, help!

Thanks in advance,

Need system specs.

Can you System Restore to a point before this started happening? That would eliminate a software problem.

Are any of your components overheating? Is it possible your RAM could be going bad?

Does the Events Log have any Application information? Start>Run>eventvwr.msc then check Application Logs (all logs really) immediately after it happens

If the logs are empty it might be a hardware problem. Have you made any changes to your soundcard drivers or hardware?

Do you have more than one stick of RAM? Take one out and try running the game, same issue? Swap the modules keeping just one in, same issue? Not the RAM then.

Defrag your hdd? Run CCleaner to clean bad registry problems? Run a virus scan and/or spybot? Any rogue processes you're noticing?

If the graphics card drivers are corrupt, did you uninstall them first, run a driver cleaner software utility, and then install the new drivers?

All right, thank you for your quick response. Sadly the system restore failed, twice, I'm going to move on to sound card drivers or graphics drivers..

The virus scan came up empty and now I'm going to try some of your other ideas. I'll hope for the best.

Okay. I tried putting in and installing a new graphics card, that didn't work. tried installing and updating sound card drivers, to no prevail. and from what I read else where i tried uninstalling Norton to see if that would help out, still freezes.

Honestly I'm about to give up.. Is there any information on this problem someone can scrounge up that i can't? I would be the most appreciative person in the world. =/

Been searching the steam forums for a bit now as well, and most of the responses people get there are completely useless from people that have no idea what they're talking about, so I'm not sure what luck i'll find there..
