Voice Chat Problems in Steam Games

I have a rather unusual problem. All my steam games, I am unable to use my mic (and be heard) through the in game chat systems. This applies to cod5 and tf2. I tried running vent while in these games and it made the game crash saying that I was running duplicate instances of something... Is there some way I can fix this? I don't have the problem in cod4 or other (nonsteam) games. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 2 core quad.

have you checked all your audio settings in steam and in windows to make sure nothings muted?

Have you made sure it's selecting your mic and not stereo mix or something else?

Yes, I did a microphone test on Steam and it works when a game isn't running, but when a game is running, I can't use my mic in game for anything (game, vent, or otherwise). My mic does mute, itself sometimes, but I'll and unmute it and it's still the same situation.

try updating your audio drivers

Check the in game setting for voice if its a analog mic make sure the jacks aren't loose and if its USB update sound and headset drivers.

Updating the sound drivers did it. Thank you very much for you help... I'm rather ashamed I didn't think of it before = P. Ah well thanks again = )
