Alrite which would you guys choose??
I game at 1680x1050 and like all my settings to be maxed.

I also currently have a 4850.

Would you choose a 4850x2 and go for Tri-Fire???
or
A 5850/58xx series card with DX11

Also note, that i can possibly get a 4850x2 for $80!!!

So basically......4850 tri-fire vs 58xx
58xx would cost me a whole lot more money.........is DX11 worth that extra money and at my resolution of 1680x1050 which would be sufficient?? an $80 4850x2 or a hundreds of dollars 58xx

I think 3x4850 would outperform while also being substantially cheaper and provide some blistering FPS for games at 1680x1050 for me to be set for quite a while.......probably until next gen cards i say??

Which would you choose??

6xxx and Fermi II are both supposed to be out Q4 2010.

If you can get a 4850X2 for $80, then go for it. Otherwise, I would wait.

lol wtf.........so fast??? a 6xxx and Fermi II already????

Hmmm if i can get it for $80 then i will snatch it, i know a seller but i needs to ask my dad to get it for me lol, im like broke from spending all my money on an i7 920 setup xD

Well, 40nm took way longer than it should've, so 28nm is coming soon after(Q4 this year). ATI knows nvidia has them beat, so they are going to rush out their next gen. Nvidia knows Fermi will be hot and power hungry, so they need to get the second generation out on 28nm process (sounds like 280 285 doesn't it ;) ).

lol but even quicker and more drastic..........these will all still be DX11 though am i right??

DX11 will be around for quite a while like DX10 was right??? if so then i may just go DX11, tessellation is so cool......you think DX11 will be around for like 2 generations basically??

The 5800 series is the way to go currently. Make sure you get one that is stock clocks though. Apparently the pre-overclocked versions have a very high rate of failure.

Why do they even try?

I would actually just try to get one with Voltage Tweaking........makes a huge difference most of the time.

5850's getting like 1000mhz core and 1200mhz memory......ridiculous, they are matching/beating stock 5870's

Then of course you can OC a 5870.....but being able to get a 5850 to 5870 with just voltage tweaking is really impressing and a huge selling point considering its $100 cheaper.

I would personally go 5850 or just straight 5970 because a 5970 is only $600........im gonna wait for price drops though

You want the 5000 series. The entire line has a new form of power saving that is just phenominal. When you are not pushing your card to its limits. IE not playing games. It uses about 20ish watts. Of course during games you have the normal wattages you would normal see. But other than that, its a real power saver.

If you are like me and pay your own electric bill, you will want a 5000 series card.

Dude for $80 , get those 4800 series until Nvidia releases and get a killer deal on a 5800 series card. You should have no problem getting your dough back out of those 4850's .

AMD includes a utility that allows you to do that, so you get that ability with every 5xxx series.

Also, I agree with processor overclocking but am against video card overclocking. Video cards die much more quickly if you overclock them. They give off too much heat nowadays, and when you push them even harder, they don't last nearly as long.

Therefore, the 5870 is the way to go. Yes it costs more, but you get a warranty and peace of mind with that extra performance.

I'd say DX11 will be out for a while. DX10 didn't last as long as I expected and was pretty much a let down.

i don't think there will be enough games in the dx11 to make it worth your while to jump to the 5xxx series as of right now. if you can get the x2 for 80 bucks get that now and if your rig can support it well enough then you should be laughing with the performance you get from that. then once dx11 titles become more popular and newer cards start coming out i think that will be the right time to make the jump to those cards. hell i bet the 5xxx series will still be the price/performance champion when the 6xxx cards come out...they'll be even cheaper and still kick total butt for any game thrown at them.
then at that time i can either get another 5850 or a 5870 and i can still rock performance as well, screw new cards every year that type of crap is ridiculous. im just glad im on this tier of performance now so when i actually need another jump i can just grab up an xfire card

Good argument...........5850 will seem like the better option though. I will wait for how much the price drops though because i can sell my current 4850 for like $80......take that from the 5850 and i will get a pretty sweet deal.

5850 at 1ghz core and such beats a 4850x2 by a good amount and matches a 5870 so either way, im definitely going to overclock the thing.

I also didn't know ATI had a voltage tool that worked for all the ATI 5xxx series cards, i thought only some like Asus, MSI had them and XFX for their 5970 black edition.

so when exactly did work on dx10 stop? will video cards that were optimized for dx10 (aka my 9800gt) work on dx11 or do i need to upgrade my graphics? unfortunately im still on dx9 (i know sad) & im ready to get over that dx9 hump (been ready for at least a year now).

To get DX11 features, you will need a DX11 compliant video card. AKA, 5xxx, GF100, or later.

yup this if you want DX11.........tessellation is truly remarkable when you look at it compared to DX10 non-tessellation.

It's whats winning me over, plus that fact that the newer cards are so much faster.

32xAA, tessellation, and ray tracing on GF100 will be amazing.

dirt2 uses some tessellation, but honestly when you're playing the game you cannot notice it at all, AT ALL. so i think it'll still be awhile, like a year, before games are noticeably different looking with all the dx11 features, however it is very promising.
i can't wait for alien vs predator dx11 woooot that should be decent, hopefully anyway

also pewpew you can just use afterburner to tweak the voltage. you need to use amd gpu clock tool in order to set the speeds but then you need to reset them in ati afterburner, unless you download some type of file or whatever in order to use rivatuner. its a little bit of a hassle because i can't set it to be OCed upon start up, but that is actually good too tho because you won't always need it/want it to be.
so basically you open up amd gpu clock tool, type in the clocks, hit apply, then open msi afterburner and click on a preset number to what settings you want and click apply and boom its all set, but you need to do that every start up

yea........i would probably get an Asus card anyway, they are putting out some good cards even though it doesn't really matter cuz they are all reference. I want to see some nice reference cards.......only one so far is the Vapor-x 5870 but i heard it doesn't overclock too well. They actually came out with an updated version recently that has a blue PCB and shorter board......wonder how this new one performs compared to the old one and other 5870 boards.

And yea, the Nvidia are gonna be epic for tessellation, gonna be beastly cards in general.
