Ok so Ive been wanting to see how far I could overclock my pc for a while now and yesterday I finally did.
PC specs
Processor: AMD Phenom 8650 Triple core stock 2.3GHz
Memory: 6GB DDR2 667mhz
Power Supply: HEC X- Power Pro 600W
Case: An old Hp i think
Video Card: PNY Nvidia 9800gt 512mb
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I started out small and only overclocked to 2.5Ghz cpu, ran prime 95 for about 20 mins and no errors. I rebooted and tried 2.7GHz I had to up the cpu core voltage by .025V and the ram to 2.10V from 2.0V. It started up and I ran prime 95 again no errors. Rebooted, tried 2.8Ghz same voltages, wouldn't start up. upped the cpu voltage by .025 again and the ram to 2.20V and it starts up. I run 3dmark06 to see how it does and to benchmark it, and it does fine. I run prime95 within 5 mins i get a ram timing error and prime stops. 10 mins later I get blue screen, it says a ram timing has failed or is taking too long. I'm new to overclocking and don't know what to do to fix this. My temps are fine, my cpu idles at 35C @2.8ghz and my mobo temp is 23C idle. Load for cpu doesnt get over 55C.

Also when I overclock my cpu my ram also overclocks from 667mhz to 812mhz.

I took some pics of my bios maybe they can help. I can only raise my cpu voltage by .025V at a time and my ram by .10V. My cpu fsb to ram multiplier are set to 3:5 and I cant find a way to change it. Here is a link to my cpuz validation when I overclocked to 2.8Ghz.

Here is the last pic, it only let me put 5 up.

I could use a little more info about your RAM. What the default timings and vDimm are. To get a higher OC, you're going to have to loosen your timings. Meaning, if default is 4-4-4-12, loosen to 5-5-5-15.

Let me know what your default RAM settings are and I can help you.

@snuf, I am running 2 different frequency ram 2GB is 667 DDR2 and 4GB is 800mhz DDR2. for the 667 the stock timings are 5-5-5-15 and for the 800mhz they are 6-6-6-18

@xSimon- i stated above I can not find a way to downclock the ram without downclocking the cpu also. When I overclock the cpu it overclocks the ram too.

Downclock both until you can figure out what to do?

First of, the 667 RAM isnt going to OC as high as the 800. So I would take out the 2GB of 667, and continue OC'n with just the 4GB of 800. I'd also set the timings for the 800 @ 5-5-5-15. Also, be careful how high you go with your vDimm.

you're overclocking by the fsb meaning it will overclock all the components in your PC, so not just the ram but you might need to up the voltage for your bridges as well, north/south etc. you can only overclock so far with the fsb because of these facts. your other components limit it greatly, but overclocking by the multiplier is far better for just the CPU because its only overclocking the CPU. usually its best to get the highest multiplier you can, then get the highest fsb clock you can.
however i assume you're doing it this way because your multiplier is locked??

He'd better check his power supply to make sure it can handle everything.

Yeah, my multiplier is locked. The highest I can get it is 11.5 which is the stock.

Ok well Thanks to snuf im now running my cpu at 2.8Ghz and my ram at 975mhz overclocked from 800MHz. My timings are 6-6-6-18-23 and my FSB is at 244 with an x11.5 multiplier. Ive ran Prime95 with no errors and no BSOD, hopefully this is a stable overclock. Here is my CPU-Z validation page for it. Im gonna overclock my GPU tomorrow and see how far i can get it then run 3dmark06 to benchmark and maybe I can beat my best score of 11937, and maybe see if my CPU and RAM will overclock anymore. I would like to get to 3.0GHz but im happy with 2.8GHz.
