I can imagine the guy that designed the demo weapon would be pretty cheesed off if they weren't going to use his idea because the demo's lost. They were always going to introduce it one-way-or-another. (not just for that reason obv.)

I don't think they were going for the same weapon, because one of the Valve employees said that the "Demoman's secret weapon is much cooler in my opinion"

Dario Casali, he didn't say the weapn was cooler, it just worked better for demoman. (I'm assuming of course it would've replaced the pipes)

They had to made a demoman a 4th item before they did the contest(or Value desided the out come of it before the contest started*) to have a plan what ever the outcome. So my 2 cents say they're not goign ot waste the time making the 4th item if they had no plan on releasing it.

As for what the item might be I would look at the pre-views for that answer, a TNT bomb with big primary exploition with a cluster secondary exploiton with a self-exploiding taunt...

I lol everytime I read or hear the "it takes 2 pipebombs 2 kill a soldier" I have been killed (at full health) by a non crit pipebomb so many times it's not even funny. ok, alittle funny but i cry alittle also.
