How to use the Shotgun

Of all the guns in CounterStrike, the shotgun is the most underrated. If you can master it, is a deadly weapon. It takes, more than anything, practice. Here's a few tips though (Feel free to correct me if you think I am wrong)

1. Shoot: This sounds simple, but I see lots of people who don't shoot at long distance with a shotgun because "It doesn't have range". However, as a few of you know, the shotgun has a surprising (and unrealistic) range. Just pump some lead out there, and you will be satisfied.

2. Pre-Fire: Any time you think there is a possibility of a enemy around the corner, fire AS YOU STEP OUT! The shotgun is one of the few guns that can kill a person with one shot not in the head. Use this to your advantage, and don't worry about looking silly shooting at nothing. You can just pretend you were sighting your gun in.

3. Make your enemy come to you: If an enemy see's you, don't run after him. Wait, and 9 times out of 10 he will come and try to get you. This closes the range, giving you the advantage.

4. Fire a wee bit ahead of the enemy: If you get in one of those situations where you and the enemy are strafing back and forth, fire about >< that far ahead of him, and it will most likely hit. Don't ask why, its CS.

BTW the shotgun will hit a moving target when firing ahead because thats what it does IRL. If you go duck, pheasant, quail, or any game bird hunting you will see that if you shoot slightly in front of the bird it will go down. You have to lead an opponent its the same with any weapon u cant shoot where the person is you shoot where they are going

I already wasted some many people in highschool and office with the shotgun that its ridiculous. I tell people how to use it, but no one does? Now someone else says it, its the best knowledge in the world? Why?! Do no one want to use my knowledge?

also remember that the shotgun always shoots in a cone even if your on a ladder or jumping so use that to your advantage.

I would add to always jump around corners because that can throw a lot of people off. I know if Im sniping long hall in Office, I aim for the head of people walking around the corner. Since the shotguns accuracy is never affected by movement, that extra second of surprise can be enough to get off one extra shot, which could mean the difference between life and death.

Fart you rock with that shottie! Theres a bad thing about it though .. it doesn't shoot through walls or water. I just had to state that because i always see people trying to do it and it ticks me off.

In real life, I am a rifle guy. Thanks for explaining it! I have found the in CS:S, sometimes the lead length is sometimes ridiculous though. Once in a while I will shoot a good 10 feet away and the guy will get killed. Maybe just bad HR though

I meant this thread to be a informative report telling people some tips about the shotgun. I am sorry you took it to be me gloating about how good I am. Perhaps instead of talking about how much you own, you could add something that contributes to the thread rather than criticizing me.

Excellent advice, something I totally forgot about! Shotgun is one the best guns to do the ole "Jump around the corner to scare the bejesus outta the guy waiting for you" maneuver.

Another excellent thing that I obliviously left out. Always know the power of your weapon, and also its weaknesses.
