even though i made my own computer the only thing i still don't get is how do you know if a CPU is compatible with a motherboard?

always look at the socket type and the processor series compatibility list on the motherboard. If you aren't sure, google is your friend.

Are you shooting yourself in the foot by limiting yourself with that socket choice? Emphatic YES!

Would I even wipe my tail with that motherboard? No

Don't get an AM2+ Phenom II......you have NO CLUE what you're missing.

So...the short answer is yes. Just don't go buying a $150 cpu that won't do HALF of what it's supposed to do while limited by a puny AM2+. Especially when the AM3 / DDR3 version is the same price!!

Strongly recommend this CPU instead.

If you need it now, DDR2 and that board would run just fine with AM3. But, it would be better to save up for a nice AM3 board and DDR3.
