Deep Philosophical Question About Melee

Okay, not really. But I still think it's deserving of some though. Imagine a 1v1 situation on a map, melee only. The BLU guy goes engineer and uses his wrench. The RED guy goes demoman and equips his eyelander and his targe.

However, the targe is kind of a powerup equip, leaving the engineer at a handicap. Should the targe be considered a melee weapon in this case?

Just wondering. :<
 
The Targe is a Primary weapon, according to the layout (But the stickybomb launcher was originally a Secondary when TF2 first came out, so Valve reworked the Demo's layout)

The only advantage the targe has is the charge option, when melee fighting. And that can be easily dodged by moving over. Besides, the wrench has a crazy crit factor, so I wouldn't worry
 
It would really come down to distance between the two, accuracy of your hits and Engys luck with crits. If the distance is great, the Demo has a chance to get a mini-crit or a full one to take out the Engy with one or two hits. At close range, it's pretty much either the Engy getting a crit hit and blasting the Demo or the Demo getting two slashes in and claiming a head.
 
Well, no. Equalizer Soldier wins in most cases against Targe + Eyelander Demo. Pyros with Axtinguisher have it relatively easy too if the Demo doesn't get a full crit charge at them. Heavies have the HP advantage, better damage dealing melee hits and crits.
 
Don't forget if you are at using the targe and charge for max distance you get crit. So that's pretty powerful.
 
Spy is the games best at melee...thats how almost every spy does there work lol...so spy would win
 
Spies are easy to 'ole!'

Uncapped equalizer > targe/sword demo > spy > all else.

In order of deadliness in skilled hands using no other weapons (like sentries, flamethrower, etc):

  1. Knife
  2. Equalizer
  3. KGB
  4. Fists
  5. Eyelander
  6. Every other melee weapon
  7. Axetinguisher
In order of deadliness in skilled hands using other weapons:

  1. Axetinguisher
  2. Knife
  3. Equalizer
  4. Eyelander
  5. KGB
  6. Fists
  7. Bat
  8. Kukri
  9. Wrench
  10. Bonesaw
  11. Ubersaw
  12. The rest of the weapons
 
I think its the demo that needs the handicap.
