Bioshock not working on Windows 7!

When I try to run Bioshock on Steam, I get that Bioshock logo thing, then the screen goes black then an error window comes up saying that Bioshock.exe has stopped working. Then I get a message that says this:

I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem...cause Bioshock worked fine on 2000 and Vista.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
2 GB of DDR2 667 MHz RAM
Sapphire HD 4870 1GB

Everything has the latest drivers as of 3 hours ago.
 
Check the bioshock website. It'll have all the patches/update news available.
 
Try running it on vista compatibility mode. That shpuld work, i've done it with several games.

If not, find out about that patch. I'm sure you can simply google it.
 
Well, it says that the update is already installed (Cause I ave it on Steam) and running it in Compatibility Mode for any OS doesn't work.
 
Fairly certain its NOT a windows 7 issue as I very happily run Bioshock on my PC while using win &
 
Could be a driver issue.. did you install all the manf drivers?... or did you just let win7 install winblows drivers.

I had this issue with Bioshock on Windows 7 x64.

I got it off of D2D though.

Put -windowed in the launch options. If I remember correctly, it should work ,and after you launch it once, you can remove the -windowed, and it should never crash again, if it does after you remove, just put it back and change to full screen in-game.

You can also try to put -dx9 in the launch options, that might have been what fixed it for me actually.

One or both of those should work.

Also, if the game freezes after it loads the menu, you gotta launch in windowed mode, select the right resolution you want and put it on full screen in-game. (This might have been because I didn't have my ATI drivers installed, I can't remember clearly)

If there is no sound once you load your character, Windows XP SP2 (NOT 3) should fix it, but I think that was also because I didn't have my ATI drivers installed (again, I'm not sure if that was the issue, my memory is vague).

Anyways, I'm pretty sure one of the first 2 should work for you.

Edit: If it matters, the crashing to desktop (and the others too actually), never happened to me again, and I've done like 20 re-formats since then. Make sure you have your most update Sound Drivers, such as Realtek's HD Audio Manager if you have Realtek. The no sound issue (and/or the crash) could be because of that.

Ok, I installed the drivers my self, still didn't work.

The -windowed and -dx9 thing also didn't work. I re-installed the game, didn't work. I re-installed Steam, guess what? Still didn't work.I re-installed Steam on a differant hard drive and it still didn't work. I tried a differant video card, still didn't work. :cursing:

I hate Windows 7.
