Alternative to Windows

Windows 7 doesn't work at all. I don't have any other OS to go back to. Vista is too slow and I have no key for it anymore, XP just sucks and 2000 isn't compatible with my Graphics card.

Ok, I don't care about DirectX 11 anymore, I don't care if itsn't Windows or not. All I care about is having my programs and games WORKING. None of my Steam games work, Bioshock is the only one that gives me an error message. I have no Anti-Virus software cause AVG doesn't like 7 and I have no Registry Cleaner cause again, it doesn't like Windows 7.

Steam, Power ISO and LimeWire Pro work, but with lots of problems. Such as if I try to exit out of one it doesn't close. I have to go into task manager, find the process and end the process to stop running those programs.

I thought Windows 7 was an improvment over previous versions of Windows, well it's not. Now I can't return Windows 7 cause I opened it.

If some people could post some ideas on what to do or on how to fix some of these issues then go ahead. But I don't want people to suggest Mac's cause I don't want one! I also don't have a lot of money at the moment and I can't download torrents....why? Cause Windows 7 doesn't like ANY torrent program known to man.

Don't think that I haven't tried to resolve these problems by my self, beleive me I have. Everything that people have said that might and would work hasn't done anything.

I was thinking of going to a Linux based OS but then I heard that they weren't compatible with my Graphics card and certain games. I don't want to get rid of my PC cause I have put in probably more than $2000 into it and I have more than $350 worth of Steam games. I don't want to throw all that away.

There is probably 1 or 2 components in your computer that Windows 7 doesn't like, and because of that, it makes your computer run like crap. Somehow, you've got to figure out what those components are and replace them. I've never heard of anyone that has had this magnitude of problems with their PC, especially one with current hardware.

Mine and Pyro Gurl's machines run virtually flawlessly. Both of them have parts that are up to 3 1/2 years old in them, and Windows 7 is fine with them.

Honestly, since it sounds like you're fed up with your PC, I'd say sell what you can and get an Xbox360/PS3. I'm sorry you've had a bad experience. :(

BTW, can you post the specs of your current system. That may help more than you think.

Either something is wrong on the hardware side, or you have a bad install disc. I can run all of those programs you listed on 7 with no issues whatsoever so it can't be Windows 7 incompatibility.

Have you tried erasing your hard drive? Not reformatting, but really erasing everything. There are programs out there that will write arbitrary bits of data on every part of your HD multiple times and erase everything that was on the HD (as opposed to a reformat that allows you to write over the data that was there before the format).

considering your gameing going non windows will just cause more problems since wine is far from perfect for running games on linux and mac.

but of general work you could try openSuSE linux or linux mint should work well for you if you are willing to learn how a linux system works.

and your issues are more of a hardware thing my computer has some pretty old components in it and win7 runs with no issues and the olny bluescreen was caused by on old 32bit security dongle driver for on old audio editing app.

If you have that many issues with 2000, XP, Vista, AND 7, then honestly you should install Linux, buy a Mac, or give up on computers.

Linux is for the haxors.
I dare not speak freely of Mac, cos that'll get me banned.
And do not give up computers.

As 'FreakingHell' said, it's most likely a corrupt install.

Try wiping your harddrive and re-apply a new copy of windows 7.

If not, I think it's time to get yourself a new "wife" (Read computer).

I'm honestly curious as to what you have done hardware-related to try and solve this problem. I know you've said that you've constantly reinstalled windows 7 and/or other OSes, upwards of 20+ times, but you seem to be ignoring many of the suggestions and questions that we talk to you about.

We need your system specs for one, and no, I don't mean just the basic information, give us as much info as possible (ie. manufacturer, specific model number, etc). The more info you can give us, the better.

Have you tried running the system with the minimum basics? Have you tried swapping parts out for other parts? That includes things like the motherboard and CPU. Not just simple things like RAM, GPUs and HDDs.

You said you were getting BSODs, yet you have still chosen not to post the information related to that BSOD. I gave you a way to read it when you get one (takes 10 seconds to set up), here it is again in case you forgot it:

Right Click "Computer" -> "Properties" -> "Advanced System Settings" -> Click "Settings..." under "Startup and Recovery" -> Untick "Automatically Restart" under "System Failure"

I also realize that you said that you have the most updated drivers all the time, but check your device manager again. It's not hard to forget motherboard specific drivers when they aren't something that you're used to consciously running.

If you want to run games, you're going to need a Windows version of some sort. I'd also suggest to stop making new threads for every problem that you have related to your computer. They've all generally revolved around the same issue, and it's much easier to help you when we have the information all gathered in one thread.

Just troubleshoot the windows 7. Like it or not Microsoft holds a monopoly on PCs.

You could just run Ubuntu Linux, and use WINE on it. Or virtualbox with windows xp running from linux

If you've reinstalled multiple times, it's a hardware issue. Because so many people have had so few issues with win 7 and their hardware, my guess is that something has gone haywire. I was brought up on the motto, "always try the easiest fix first." Also, you have to keep a cool head when trouble shooting, because otherwise you end up thinking with your emotions and not your brain.

First, pull all your addon cards and check your ram one stick at a time. One stick could be bad and that could be causing the issue.

If that doesn't solve it, it could be a harddrive, motherboard, or cpu failing.

Also, you could be having power supply issues as well.

You should post your system specs in detail for us to look at. Something obvious might be going on. From there, you might have to just swap parts out one at a time.

Ok, my hardware as Best as I can describe it:

ASUS P5K Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz (not made anymore by the way)
Corsair 520W power supply
Kingston Value RAM DD2 2 GB 667 MHz
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy (I got this cause my Mobo sound quit working and is irrepairable)
Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 1GB (It's the version with the chrome heat pipes on it)
Seagate Barracuda 250 GB (System Hard Drive)
Western Digital 640 GB
A DVD Burner and 3.5" Floppie drive that I have no info on at all XD

Yes, I have tried to swap the RAM in and out with by Brother's PC RAM. But it still deosn't work. That P5K Motherboard has no on-board graphics so my only substitute is my old Sapphire HD 3870 X2 which also makes no differance. I have taken out my Sound Card wich also makes no differance. I can't switch out my processor cause no one else has the same socket size as me.....uhh anything else I left out?

I HAVE a copy of Vista that well...kinda works....I have no CD key for it.

Now I just remembered that....everything worked on Windows 7 Beta...and the RC...but not on the Final (Everything is fixed) version.....whats up with that?

I haven't made any hardware changes since then.....I don't get it.
