This is my comp, and im running windows vista

Manufacturer:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Memory:
4094MB RAM
Hard Drive:
308 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS
Monitor:
Generic PnP Monitor

ok problem (just started about a week ago)

When i boot up the comp, the desktop loads and everything, and when the start up is basically done, the color goes to this tanish/brown tint, its not a lot by any means, it just switches, i can see everything fine still, the colors are just a tad darker like i said. When i go to the video card setting and under adjust dektop color settings the bubble is check for "other applications control color settings. than if i check the :use NVIDIA settings" everything goes back to normal and the colors are all fine again. but every time i restart the comp, that weird tint comes back.
Everything still runs fine, but id like to have all the normal coloring back :/

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I know this is a cliche answer, but try updating drivers and windows.

Also, what type of cable are you using to hook up your monitor? VGA or DVI?
Try replacing it.

Funny related story: I use to have an old CRT monitor, that every so often would have similar yellowish discoloration. How I got it to go back to normal color was by slamming down on the top of it. XD worked every time.

its a laptop
i took screens shots of the color difference, i cant tell the difference because now they both look the same, no matter what setting i have it on.. so hopefully you guys can see the difference, if you cant, than ignore the pics lol and dont think im crazy if they look the same, i prob just messed up. but yea they r diff
this is what the color used to be and should be

this is the weird tint

i tried some stuff to try and lock the color changes in the registry, but it didnt work. Again this dosent affect performance at all. but it is annoying..

video card drivers are all up to date also.

This could be your laptop trying to save battery so it makes the colors darker. My laptop turns the brightness down when its unplugged. Im not exactly sure how to fix it but that might be why its doing it.

Nah, mine usually stays plugged in, and my brightness is all the way up lol. Its not the brightness but just like a tint..

BUT weird thing is, its all fine now, i messed around with the registry and locked downed the color settings... or whatever.. i really dont know what i did, but its working now :/

computers confuse me lol.

He is onto something with saving power. Try switching to advanced or performance power consumption.

But it can also be that your graphics card might be running into issues. Clean out the dust really well. Use a new can of air. Clear out everything you can.

I tried the battery options, and now its fine.

BUT

the difference is when i go to the video card options. if the option for "other applications control color settings" thats when it gets the weird color. And if it stays on "use NVIDIA settings" than everything is fine

when i just restarted the comp last time, the use NVIDIA options stayed seleteced.

but other times it switches back to the other option.

also i havent the slightest idea how to clean out a video card in a laptop (i can go get a can of compressed air no problem) i just dont know how to clean out a laptop.

There is a little door with a screw where the ram is.
