Hey guys for the last couple of hours i'v been trying to reinstall windows media center on my in-laws computer when i insert the disk to boot upto the windows install process it ask for windows XP pro with SP2 whats that all about?

I googled it but it was of no help. I even tried installing windows on another computer by taking out the hard drive once that was done the computer would not boot into windows just say it could not find the installation. Anyone with any experience with this would be of help.

Its a Dell Dimension E520.

I have the Reinstall Disk for the computer that came with it. But as of right now it is absolutely no help.

Alright well i finally got it to work remembered i have a dell Windows XP Pro SP2 disk from my Dell XPS i have so i used that to reinstall windows on my in-laws dell dimension E520 and all works well, weird that the OS CD that came with the E520 would not let me install.

Yeah, unfortunately that happens. Media Center Edition is just a flavor (modification) of XP/NT5.

Most copies of Media Center Edition that I install start with a fresh copy of XP Pro. However, I truly fault Dell for not providing you with a means of restoring your machine to its factory condition. I would call them and complain, especially if you are within your warranty! Dell has a great habit of giving things to you for free to make you happy. Their #1 customer satisfaction rating is very important to them. ;)

Should have zero wiped the drive first before installing. The install disk instance is more then likely seeing old instances of past installs that never truely got wiped off the drive under a so called "reformat" of NTFS.

Your gonna need to acquire a copy of xp first :/

Depending on when the dell was made almost all of them for the past 5-7 years have included an image on the HDD to restore to factory image. Press Ctrl + F11 when the system is booting and it should bring up a modified norton ghost.
