Future Call of Duty game Fee

So exactly how would it work anyways?

Like a HUGE map where people just run around killing and eventually run into hackers every 5 minutes.

Because it betrays everything Infinity Ward originally had? Because it is a giant sucker punch to anyone who loved the original Call of Duty's? Because it shows how bad the videogaming industry is now? Because dedicated servers are one of the biggest life lines to PC gaming?

Someone tell me how Bobby Kod*k is even slightly eligible to be CEO of Activision? He was freakin president of 4KidsTv before that, how the hell does he move up the chain?
I give up on CoD for the PC.

he was the president of 4kidz?

yay, more reason to hate him :D

Heres how it is.

Activision wanted to test how gullible we were by shipping MW2 with no dedi servers, and sense it sold better than Cod4 they think they can charge us the exact same as Microsoft gets off of the console CoD. So Activision is just manipulating the PC market for profit, and we (and possibly the PS3 gamers) will be the only ones who have to pay the subscription fee, while consoles just buy the game and continue paying the subscription fee they were already paying in the first place.

Or....
This website could just be making a play on how it appears that Activision is trying to manipulate the PC market into buying a game made for consoles.

Well, for some reason people still pay for Xbox Live, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Well there's 2 reasons that MS charges for it, 1 because the majority of their player base are children who wouldn't know how to set up dedi-servers and 2 having a system for multiplayer interaction already revved up and ready to go attracts developers. This is why a lot of multiplayer game developers are put off by the PS3, and also why more ambitious multiplayer developers (Zipper FTW) love it.

It's funny right? I mean consoles gamers must be a group of mentally retarded lepers who could never begin to grasp the complexities of PC gaming.

I swear fanboyism is sad regardless of what side of the fence it's on.

Oh,

Except that a CEO talking out his ass isn't the same thing as an official statement.

Allow me to bestow upon you why there are rumors of a COD MMO.

From Destructoid:

We've gotten word that IW is hiring people from Sony Online Entertainment, one of which may be the lead designer of EverQuest II, and that a member of Blizzard employees may also be involved to help Infinity Ward get this new title off the ground. Our Intel seems to indicate that Call of Duty will continue as an annual franchise while IW runs this MMO alongside it.

To summaries, Infinity Ward is hiring talent from Sony's MMO developer. The same guys who created Planetside.

People this thread has nothing to do with XBL. The thread has to do with a rumor from a so called source with will most likely be false. People need to stop believing in these rumors.

Kind of surprised to see how many people actually think this is new.

The "They made the best selling game for 2 years now they want more" argument being shouted out by pretty much every person here kind of goes out the window once you realise that this mmo idea has been in the works for over two years (assuming they were working on this before date of confrence, which they had to have been in order to talk about their research to investors)

Just after call of duty 4 was released, activision was looking at 5 years worth of data on mmos and trying to expand into that market of gaming. As for the game it self the majority of you seem pretty quick to denounce this idea before you even try it or information about it becomes available other then just rumors and no actual game play information.

In short - Gee activision trying to expand into a growing game market and try to make money in the process so that people who work for them can keep their jobs and the company can stay alive to make more games? My word we can not allow this to continue and must denounce their products right now!

And of course we can't stop there...activision have teamed up with blizzard for this mmo, so should we be getting our world of warcraft torches out now?

I do not think the CEO was taking about MMO-FPS version of CoD when he mentioned to monetize the CoD series...

He is most likely talking about something similar to Xbox Live Gold. For example, Starcraft 2 players need to pay a monthly fee (or set amount of time, ie, 10 hours connection time) to connect to the battlenet to play others online. So for CoD, you can play single player once you purchased the game, but you will need to pay a fee in order to play online matches.

Unfortunately, this is not a far fetched idea. A few years ago, a game called "Universe at War" tried to use the above business model, but it failed and ended up offering free online matches which are traditionally seen in pc games. I do worry if the game was good and people were willing to go along with the subscription fee. I can see people are more likely to pay monthly subs for the game like CoD or Starcraft 2 if it were forced on gamers.
