Alright, I currently have a Nvidia 9500 GT that I'm wishing to upgrade, it was a great card for $50, but its not cutting it anymore :). I have about a $200 budget, maybe a bit more if I saved up longer, what suggestions do you guys have for a card in that price range that would be the best improvement over my current one?

I can vouch for the 4850. I have the HIS 4850 and the cooling fan on it is superb.

EVGA GTX200 series ftw...

Not to mention if it fails they will replace it with one of greater or equal value... I have yet to see an ATI card manufacturer offer the same...

Not to mention until ATI's driver support gets better and they stop packaging worthless software with it Im staying NVIDIA for the near future and this is coming from someone who was very pro ATI back in the day....

Or if you can wait the best of the best is coming out eventually from NVIDIA.... GeForce400 series with Fermi <Insert Homer Drool>

So if price is no option this is the best card money can buy coming March 2010

Amps on 12v rail?

then we can suggest a card that your pc can run

lol, I don't know the specifics of my power supply, anyway to find out without opening the computer casing? I'm feeling lazy right now and don't really want to go find my screwdrivers and stuff :P

K, I'll do that tomorrow and get back to you guys :), thanks for the help tonight though

here's a chart: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Axle/GeForce_GT_240/28.html

I kinda like the ATI 5770 right now - it's the replacement for the last gen 4870, and uses a LOT less power
(wow, am I reading this chart right? that is a lot less?!?)

GPU / Idle Load / Average Load / Max Load
ATI 5770 - 17w / 72w / 112w
ATI 4870 - 75w / 138w / 207w
GTX 260 - 31w / 118w / 186w

They really just optimized the idling power usage a lot better. This could be done with the 48xx series also with some bios editing. But yes, the improvement in technology helps a lot in load power usage and such.

Don't worry, when you overclock the 5770, that load power usage is gonna go up.

It all depends on how big your case is. Obviously the better the card, the bigger they will be. I know that there is a new Raddeon card in I believe the 5850 series and its about 13'' long.

10.5" bro
Not 13"
I think the 5970 is 13", though.
