Ok I have a old dell dimension that got fired from a virus or something don't know what exactly happen but every time I try to run a program a cmd prompt screen pops up for a second and then disappears and the program never opens so I want to to build a gaming rig with that computer frame and I have been looking on the site newegg and tiger down and I have come up with these selections please help me get the bang for my buck! I will replace everything in the computer except the hard drive
(not sure if I can just reformat the whole thing and it will be virus free or do i need to invest in a new one)
I will also leave front usb and card reader in there along with the cd/dvd burner

Everything else will be replaced with

Power Supply
COOLMAX CL-700B 700W ATX 12V V2.3 Power Supply $60

Video card
SAPPHIRE 100256HDMI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 $75

Cpu
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor $100

Motherboard
MSI 760GM-E51 AM3 AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard $70

Ram
CORSAIR 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory $55

So all together that's $351 +$13.33 shipping!!I not going to get a new hard drive because i think the 160 gb that's already in there is more than enough because i have also have almost 2 tera bytes of external drives for school/work so just for gaming that drive should be ok, I think. Please let me know whats a better deal than any of this items because I'm planing on paying for this stuff like Wednesday and I don't want to rush it because this will be my first time making a gaming rig! All the prices are from newegg and the cpu and mother board is from tiger direct. I made a post similar to this in my division but figured I might get more help in the tech section! This is all in my budget I Want to sell my Mac G4 that has 1ghz cpu speed and 1gb of ram to offset the coast so if you know anyone who is interested in a G4 send them my way I think a fair price on it would be like $200-250 please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the help in advance!

DDR2 is 240 pins and it wouldn't even boot up the PC using DDR1.

DDR3 ram and motherboard is a much better option, because it's the same price as DDR2 now.

Nice I like this better I have edited my post!
What's your option on the power supply?
Should I get a new hard drive or can I just reformat my old 160gb, will be like brand new?
Should I get any special fans because the old dell only came with a monster heat sink and 12v 1.4a fan.

The stock heatsink on the Phenom II is really good. If you're using the same case, just be sure to clean out all the dust. And if you reformat the drive should be fine. The PSU sounds like a no named brand :/

Can you suggest one for me please!
I'm looking at this one now
COOLMAX CL-700B 700W ATX 12V V2.3 Power Supply $60

Have you also tried local stores?

I got a 1200 watt SATA PSU for $32.00 at CompUSA.

I'm not aware of where you live, but sometimes stores sell stuff for really cheap because no one wants to buy it.

Really?

Local stores here sell stuff for 3 times more than what it's worth.

Like a non name motherboard for $200 and a 3 year old 8800gt for $250

wOw I just went on compusa.com and they have the same exact prices as newegg.com with the exception that if i get it from newegg i dont have to pay tax vs going to the store and pay 7% on the dollar plus gas. Crazy world we live soon there will only be walmarts and online stores only! The new world order is here people run! so if i get it from new egg I save $24.50 + About $10 in Gas

You probably won't need a 1200 watt psu, a 650 watt one is very good though. In case you want to upgrade your computer again somewhere down the line you don't have to worry about getting a new psu, plus its better to have a psu running at 50% efficiency than having it running at 95% efficiency (which most won't even do that).

You won't actually use all 650 watts, power supplies will only put out as much as is needed.

Oh I forgot to mention, that motherboard will let you unlock your x2 CPU into an x4. But, only if the other 2 cores will work stable. It also overclocks very well.

MSI has really stepped up their game in the past few months, you can't really ask for much more at $70.

Even on the front of the box it tries to persuade you to unlock your CPU.

I'm not sure what over clocking is I have watch some youtube videos but stuff like that always fail for me when i try to do it so i think i will stick with what i pay for because i'm one of those people that have bad luck with everything i try to fidget with Man I want to just press the complete sale button on paypal so bad but I think I will wait until wensday to go ahead and finalize the deal still trying to see what i can cut back on to get a juicer video card but i think the one i picked should be a nice starter and I notice the motherboard already has a video card on it so will i get even more video power by adding the one i plan to buy or will i just be using the one i plug into the motherboard?

The one on the motherboard is decent, for onboard I mean. The 4670 is alot better, like almost not comparable.

If you can cough up a little, this would definitely better the better option, and last for a couple of years.

Microcenter has the Coolmax 500w for $19.99 . THIS IS NOT A BRAND I WOULD TRUST. However i have never actually owned one , but the PSU is something you do not want to skimp on. Either way for just a few bucks more, you could get a much more reputable brand . Just arrange your search results on Newegg from most reviews first, and then best rating first.
