I was reading some threads around here... I decided to build up a list of the best Performance/Price. Why a mean with that?... The products that are on the reach of our pockets, but still give of the best gaming experience.
This is a good idea for those that are planning to build up a new system, or want to change one of their components.

So here is the main things...

Processor/CPU:
Motherboard/Mainboard:
Video Card/GPU:
Hard Drive:
Power Supply:
Computer Case:
Cooling System:
Memory/RAM:
Mouse:
Keyboard:
Headset:
Screen Monitor:
Coke/Red Bull (Just Kidding)

... and anything else

This could be a nice reference guide that can be updated from time to time...

P.S: This is not for me, Im very happy with my machine at the moment :).

Proc: AMD Athlon 620

GPU: ATi 5850

Budget is a factor though

it depends on your budget, really.

There is soooooooooooo many options and they all vary depending on your budget. If you have a higher, you can get something with higher performance for your price. Pretty much impossible to narrow it down to a single list.

Budget please.

I'm sure we can set you up with a $100000000 rig

Let's say a maximum of $1300

You can build an i7 920 rig then if you want. Ill give you 2 ideas.

Intel i7 920:
i7 920 - $290

Foxconn Flamingblade - $195 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186169&cm_re=x58-_-13-186-169-_-Product

OCZ Gold 6 gb ddr3 1600 - $140 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...65&cm_re=6gb_DDR3_1600-_-20-227-365-_-Product

Cooler Master Scout Combo Deal with OCZ 700w Modular PSU - $125 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.330941

Western Digital Caviar Black 750gb - $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...283&cm_re=caviar_black-_-22-136-283-_-Product

Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X edition - $440 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102872&cm_re=5870-_-14-102-872-_-Product

This build just about maximizes i7 for your budget. The total after rebates is about $40 under you max budget but shipping etc will bump that up.

Heres an AMD build:
Phenom II x4 955 BE - $160 Make sure you get the C3 stepping which is the newer one i think the product code is something like BGM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=AMD_phenom_II_x4-_-19-103-808-_-Product

MSI 790FX - $167 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130223&cm_re=790FX-_-13-130-223-_-Product

OCZ Gold 6 gb ddr3 1600 - $140 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...65&cm_re=6gb_DDR3_1600-_-20-227-365-_-Product

Cooler Master Scout Combo Deal with OCZ 700w Modular PSU - $125 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.330941

Western Digital Caviar Black 750gb - $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...283&cm_re=caviar_black-_-22-136-283-_-Product

Gigabyte Radeon HD 5970 2GB - $600 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10011623&prodlist=celebros

This AMD build will get you better FPS and is more of a gaming rig. The 5970 blows the single 5870 out of the water and you pay about the same as for the i7 rig. I would recommend the AMD one personally just for the ATI 5970 and the gaming performance you get.

I realize that the Phenom II x4 is a high-clocked quad core, but wouldn't it somewhat bottleneck the 5970, unless of course it was overclock a bit (.6 GHz maybe).

Thats how I can tell you're not an AMD guy lol
PII's can only run dual channel memory, not tri-channel.

see heres the deal, just because you have the budget for the best components on the market doesn't mean thats the best price/performance.
if you just want the best computer you can build with your current budget then grab it up but if you're looking for best price/performance components then its best to search google and get a general professional census on that point

ooops mistake..........i just copied some stuff over from the i7 because i didn't want to go back on newegg and look it up :P also late and i was tired.

The Phenom II x4 will probably bottleneck it a little in some games, but if you can afford it, why wouldnt you get it?? If i went with AMD just to get the same graphics card as an i7 920 on the same budget.........wats the point?? i would just go with i7.

The Phenom II x4 just needs some minor overclocking and it should be fine. It will only bottleneck in certain games where many other GPU's bottleneck also. Like Fallout3, COD, etc..

Here, Patriot 4gb DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24 - $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...32&cm_re=4gb_DDR3_1600-_-20-220-432-_-Product
This will save you $40.........

Bull, I couldn't max out any relatively new games @ 1680x1050 until I got another for SLi, and even then I could not max out everything. Now I definitely can't.

The 9800gt should be a lot less than $120 now, I got an 8800gt 2 years ago for exactly $105.50. And yeah, at the time it could max out everything at 1680x1050, the 169.09 driver was heavenly for Crysis.

and just because you have enough money to buy a full i7 rig doesn't mean you want to spend all your money on your computer, im sure theres other things in life to buy to which the money would be more useful....this is the point for price/performance builds, to not spend all your money on a rig
