Yeah, I remember seeing a fair amount of people fairly excited about the new AvP so assuming those people bought it; is it any good, or is it as meh as the critics are saying? I like to reserve judgment, but I've been skeptical looking at Rebellion's track record and the reviews have said its not really that good (They aren't saying its awful either though) so at most I'm probably just gunna rent it, but to the people that do have it, what are your opinions? I have seen cases where players seem a little more positive towards certain games, so I'll have an ear open.

To be honest, people are basing their opinions off of two things:

1. Other people's opinions.

2. The demo.

What's wrong with both of those choices is that for one, the demo is based off old code. It is not the finished product, and to be honest FFA is NOT the best multiplayer mode at all to show off a new game. Why they chose that mode is beyond me.

The using other people's opinions option is just as wrong, because you're being an idiot and not forming your own opinion. Whether this person has their opinion based off the demo, or they don't like the game... you magically decided that their opinion is law and GODDAMNIT I'MA FOLLOW IT! BAAAAAA!~

Ok maybe not so much, but I despise people like that. Me personally, I'm dling it on steam right now and I'll give my own finished opinion on it when I play it for a bit. If you're stuck on the fence, I say rent it and find out for yourself.

I will tell you when it finishes downloading, who knows when it will be finished though.

Gamespot said it was absolute garbage.
Gamespot also fired on of their reviewers for giving kane and lynch a bad review when they were sponsering Gamespot.

Across all reviews the average review for AVP so far is 85%, Gamespot is just way extreme, their reviewer was just bad.. didn't understand anything about the game and hardly tryed to play it. Everyone else is giving it favorable reviews.

Hey Croutons,

eGO member Nuke is our resident AvP game expert. No one has been more excited then him to check it out as he is a huge fan of anything in that genre. His review is the one I'm waiting for, though I'm sure other people who review it will also be helpful.

We're a mini-family here, so while I get what Cervani is saying as we get to know each other better this can actually be a pretty helpful question.

This is true. Gamespot is over compensating in an attempt to regain credibility. Also, where are you seeing 85% as an average review?

guys, you cant really judge a game until you have played it. the reviewers arent you. sometimes they can be off, and you play a game you like but they dont. its kind of 50/50 when reviewers tell you about games that are like below the 60% tile.

but one game comes to mind when i think about bad games. turning point, good god that was horrific.

anyway, i been hearing good things about AVP from friends. me personally, wont get the game. but me and my friends havent lied about games yet :3

i think this is a must try for people who dont know what they want from games XD

Someone had posted all the reviews so far on a forum and I averaged them. I'm sure it has changed, there were only 12 reviews at the time.

I am a fan of the movies, I can tell you straight up that it is not garbage. Game informer gave the game a 5.75 but they also had a guy who is a racing fan play the game and write the article, what the hell is that?

Right now i can only see one thing wrong with the game. That is playing the alien campaign right now it is sometimes hard to orient yourself when you jump onto different walls but other then that its pretty cool. The AI could be smarter too, but im only playing on "normal" maybe on "hard" and "nightmare" it will propably be 10X harder. The marine campaign was pretty sweet (albeit short) but i believe so far (im 50% done with the campaign) they have caught the true essence of the alien movies. They also count the marine, alien, and predator campaigns as one full campaign so when i say im 50% done i mean i'v completed the marine campaign and am doing the alien campaign. After which i plan on doing the predator campaign and then playing and owning people online should be fun.

Playing the marine campaign was fun, i liked it alot the atmosphere is good, leaves a little to be desired at certain points but over all i think it is good, the story so far is confusing to me, also leaving it open for a second game (what i got from the marine campaign). I have some good marine campaign screenies i plan on sharing once i get them re-sized since im pretty tired now, i'll make a thread later unless someone else beats me to it. :)

This game is even better then i anticipated and it so much smoother then the demo was. The details they put in most of there maps is outstanding. As a marine it freaks you out when a plant moves in the wind and you shoot at it. The way the aliens come out of the darkness is superb really brings me back to the older aliens games.
Nothing can ever be as good as the original i always say but, this game has made a good impact on me. Everyone has to understand this is melee combat not quake or a normal FPS. This is about gaining the advantage over the other races.

The downfall right now is there isn't any dedicated servers should be fixed soon! At least we have matchmaking abilities for a skirmish and ranked matches. Speaking of Ranked matches the setup is cool you can't choose your race map or anything its random(which is perfect no stacking). The only thing you can choose is what u search for DOMINTATION, TDM, DM, INFESTATION, PRED HUNT, amount of players 8, 12, 18 and everything in between etc... this makes ranked matches fair across the board so you have to learn all the races not just master one. This isn't a game where some one can pick it up and be the best race ever because nothing is overpowered you have to find your weapons as a pred and usually u don't get more then 1 weapon with out dieing. The disc isn't as bad as it used to be and the shoulder cannon was inmproved alot. Alot of people say the flamethrower sucks but, what they don't know is u can mouse two spray the ground and the alien and light that sucker on fire its cool.

My tips!!!!!! (goes with most games anyway)

As Alien (GO SLOW:TAKE OUT LIGHTS: GET BEHIND UR ENEMY: ATTACK TOGETHER: STAY IN DARKNESS:

As Pred: STAY HIGH:ALWAYS CLOAK(doesn't cost energy better then previous games)>learn how to block and counter u must master this

As Marine: STICK TOGETHER:WATCH RADAR:FIND GRENADES: LEARN HOW TO BLOCK ALIENS POUNCES, MARINES IN NUMBERS IS ALWAYS BETTER (don't reload all the time u have 100 rounds you know!)

This game loads fast for a newer game even on my system which just meets recommended specs which is a plus. The graphics look better then the demo by far the marines do not look like paper blowing in the wind like the demo. One CoN would be that to download this game it was 15gigs it took me 2 hours to download at 2MB/s a little over 2 hours about 7 gigs an hour. It was well worth the wait guys.

Survivor! i am not a fan of co-op but, this is a big improvement over the original avp. Drones don't appear to be stupid and they hide from you quickly and come out and leap at ya. Not to mention the marine is alot smoother when it comes to aiming then the demo.
The lack of maps for Survivor is a let down. If i was a betting man i would say this game will be modded and so far we have only played on a peer 2 peer basis with little lag (8-12 people). When you get up to 18 people it lags alot on a dedicated server its going to be even better and we might even get up to 24 people who knows. I hope people make maps for it just like old times. Every other AvP was modded so hopefully this one is too. I love this game! You aren't going to master it overnight and this isn't your typical shooter these are the highlights i have seen so far and haven't come across any bugs(errors not aliens) yet

My word is gospel believe it lol! OH for those reviews most are 85% i'm sure there is more reviews out there but, who cares all those reviews were based off the demo not the game so gamespot can eat a bag of baguettes (dane cook is god)

Another note my other video card comes in tomorrow SLi Yay

This game is something you have to sit down and learn you can't just pick it up and understand the mechanics. 3 races 3 completely different ways to play and it is very well balanced compared to previous ones so i have no complaints.

Yeah it is a pretty good game, it is worth a rental at least, the single player campaigns don't last very long, about the same as most single player fps games these days though. Graphics are great if you can crank them up, pretty impressive looking game. Multiplayer is the real draw and once they set up the dedicated servers I look forward to playing it quite a bit. All the sides seem pretty balanced. Overall a great game. Should keep you entertained.
