MMO game to start with

Alright so ive never played an MMO game before and i was looking to get into one. I tried the trail version of WoW but i just couldnt get into it. Not really my style i guess. Im looking for a recommendation for a good mmo game to play but the problem is im picky lol. Here is a list of the games i LOVE and based on that list and the game play styles from those games, hopefully someone could come up with an MMO game i might like:

Fallout 3
Mass Effect 2
Oblivion
Far Cry 2
BF games
CoD Games
Diablo II
Starcraft


Those are the list of some of my favorite games of all time. I know based on that list and the game play styles, it might be hard to come up with an MMO for me. I do not really like turn based combat. for example, i tried Dragon Age and did not like it. So anyways, can someone come up with something? Im sorry im a pain in the neck about this lol. Even games people are currently playing and love, just say why u love it, and if i might like the gameplay or not.

P.S. A Beautiful environment would be nice too or atleast pretty good graphics.

I would say try Vanguard: SoH. I played that for a good while & it was a blast. GOt in wit ha hardcore guild & they ruined it for me :<
If you have a decent computer, its one of the better looking MMO's out there.

Also, do a trial of EVE Online, thats pretty fun & we even have a corp.

Guild Wars is a good start due to the fact that you can buy a single version of the game, pay once, no monthly fees afterward, and then if you decide you don't like it, you don't have anything more invested and can decide to play anytime later without paying again.

On the pay to play side of things, WOW is sadly, probably the easiest to get started with. Its simple, has really easy to learn mechanics and doesn't require a lot of skill for the majority of it's content. It is also a game that most other MMO's base things off of. Which means, once you play it and learn to play it, you can pick up any other MMO and do fine with it.

Please note that you don't need to buy any expansions or anything to begin with. Start with a free trial, then upgrade that if you feel comfortable with the game. This is the case with most every MMO out there more than 6 months old.

Warhammer Online offers a free endless trial to check out the game. I would give that a try and learn to play MMO's via free trial with this game. It offers the completely free, unhindered play to level 10 with as many characters as you please and there is no time limit so you can learn to play MMO's at your leisure without feeling like your wasting money and have zero pressure to make progress. Then if you like this game and want to play past level 10 (which it is an amazing game) you can upgrade that account and play all you want through level 40 (level cap).


I would say those are your safest bets at the moment. Feel free to message me on here or on Steam too. I've played every pay to play MMO out currently, as well as many, many of the free to play MMO's (and the free ones are very different).

yeah im looking to get addicted lol. Usually i get new games. love them for a while, then get bored and have nothing to play. im looking for a game that will keep me occupised for a long time and that seems to be what MMOs offer. Ill check out warhammer cause i didnt much care for Wow. But out of curiosity, did u try StarTrek online? How is that?

I'm actually playing that right now. It's alright, but there just isn't very much content. It's beyond repetitious. There really just isn't too much going in the game. I wouldn't recommend it to be honest. There just is not enough there to really compete with other games.

And the bugs... wow are there bugs... At least wait a few months before picking up STO.

I've played a ton of MMOs in my day. Personally I can't stand them, but betas equal free entertainment...So I play 'em. Most of what you will find will be mirrored off of WoW. The farthest you can get from that style would be EVE online.

lol nice. yeah i tried the trial for Eve and i was very lost.

I think what im really after here which has been brought up, is a game that i wont really get bored of, that i can play for a long time. I figured that would be an MMO cause i hear thats what they do to people. But if you guys have other suggestions, im open to listening.

Try playing through a series of games you've never played, or never played closely enough together to really connect the stories.

examples:

Ratchet and Clank
Metal Gear
Mario Bros.
Prince of Persia
Half-life
STALKER
COD
Final Fantasy
Pokemon
Fallout
GTA
God of War
The list can go on, and on, and on....

Seriously though. Give WAR Online a try and then if you don't like it, try Guild Wars, it may be more to your taste of playstyle.

World of Warcraft (Game doesn't start before lvl 80)
Guild Wars (Never played it, but might be fun)
Age of Conan (lvled to lvl 50 with 2 guys. Never got into it as I am more like a WoW-guy)
Aion (Never tried it, might be fun)
Warhammer Online (Lvled to lvl 12, fun stopped there for me)

Edit: You can't jump in Guild Wars which is the only reason I never tried it out. And Aion is too Asian.
