So I was looking into buying a retail Phenom II x2 but I also wanted to get a good heatsink. I was wondering if anyone who has bought this chip 'retail' can tell me what kind of heatsink it comes with. I've seen many articles online about this saying that they came with a heatsink that had copper tubing and others saying that it came with a full aluminum heatsink.

Can anyone tell me what kind it really comes with?

My phenom II x2 came with the full alluminum heatsink, although I have seen some other amd processors come with different heatsinks that have copper heatpipes (tubes) . Man does amd know how to design a heatsink. That thing was great. I got my cpu up to 3.7GHz (from 3.1) without much temp increase.

I have since replaced it with a CM hyper 212+ because I wanted a higher OC.

So in short yes the stock heatsink is very good for what you pay.

I'll take pictures of mine in a second.

From what I know, the x4's are the only ones with the copper heat sinks. The x3 and x2 both have the same.

Ahh. Thanks a lot for your input, reflex. Much appreciated. I'm not thinking about overclocking anyway but it's good to know that the heatsink works good. I think I'll just stick with the stock one and see how it goes. Thanks again mate.

I see. I've been doing a little more research and it does look like that only the x4's come with copper on them.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the speedy replies :)

Thanks shadow. Much appreciated that you took the time to take pictures. Thanks mate.

Well I leave the AMD box on my desk with the heatsink in it, so no problem :P

Well since taking pics of your stock heatsink is all the rage i thought i do mine for lolz:

The stock heatsink you get with your CPU depends on the wattage of the CPU. the higher wattage ones come with the copper heatsinks

my X4 came with the copper, and it works just fine at the stock speeds. If you are going to overclock your X2, then maybe think about an aftermarket heatsink
