Major lag

Hey

I've been experiencing big time lag lately. Noticed it just after the last steam update, not that it's causing it, but to give a time line. When a server is empty, i have none, but the more who join, the more i get. I can walk for 3-4 secs and then it stops for a sec and over and over. I've run all the malware, spyware and antivirus scans I know of. The rest of my comp surfs are fine, jsut the TF2 gaming does this.
Any ideas?

Are you on a desktop or laptop? It more than likely has to do with the steam update or something with the rates, but just in case I figure I'll throw this out there. Occasionally I forget to change my battery settings on my laptop and that will do it for me. Or your battery could being starting to die as well.

Historically, cl_updaterate should be no less than 3/4s of your cl_cmdrate

so for example:

cl_cmdrate 60
cl_updaterate 45

but also, if you mess with those rates (cmdrate and updaterate) you will need to update your cl_interp setting

cl_interp = cl_interp_ratio / cl_updaterate

cl_interp_ratio defaults to 2, I believe

Countess: no, i'm on desktop & KillZone did your reccomendations and it worked! Only went in for like 45 secs, but, I would've lagged at least 10 times and didn't. Thanks to all !
