Nvidia GTX 480 and 470 release date

Indeed the performance of the GTX 480 over the ATI 5870 is extremely disappointing. They have comparable FPS benchmarks in Heaven. We will have to wait for some real-time game benchmarks though.

Surely one of these days I'll find a game that actually needs a card like this. My 4890's still rockin' the crap out of everything I toss at it.

It's not a matter of whether or not your computer can run it,
these cards (for now) are for enthusiasts.

Run 3 1920x1200 monitors in 3D and let me know how that 4890 holds up.

People always seem to assume that if they don't need it, nobody does....Not true at all. These cards will have a place...

I wouldn't start calling out anyone on false assumptions unless you're willing to ease up yourself. Don't assume that just because I don't care for the "excessive enthusiast" cards you'll be paying out your backside for that I'm naive to their purpose or intended audience.

My viewpoint is perfectly relevant. And based on resources such as Valve's hardware surveys, my viewpoint applies to a hell of a lot more people than those needing the power for 3 1920x1200 monitors running in 3D. For most people, these cards are nothing to freak out over. Better to wait until a year from now when DX11's starting to pull its respective weight and we're getting into more reasonable prices, for what will be more relevant cards.

There's more than one way to do "enthusiast". There's the smart, money-conscious way. And then there's the way that involves a complete and utter lack of anything other than scoring big in the money squandering area.

Oh, I'm sorry,
what was that?
These cards will have a place?
I didn't say they wouldn't be needed, just not right now.

I said 'will' because the cards are not released yet.

Two Listen, your viewpoint has no relevance to these cards. They will absolutely be overkill for anything but a dual monitor setup (except one of those crazy high resolution monitors) for the next two years, by which point there will be cheaper cards that perform as well. The high end of this architecture is designed for the enthusiast gamers (this doesn't just mean you game enthusiastically) and HPC segment. If that's not you, you are not expected to want, need, or spend money on it. They want your money on the cheaper cards that will come later.

It's like coming into a conversation about Porsches and talking about Chevys.

hey its funny you said that, because nvidia is just like a porsche with its high performance and high price, and ati is just like a corvette, high performance for a lower price

why is everybody arguing with everybody anyway. calm down...

I hope you are talking about a Z06, because regular Vettes are not high performance lol.

But you also lose a lot of important features that would make the premium for a Porsche worth it for people that can afford it.

For example, I'd purchase a 911 Carrera S over a Z06 (comparable prices) even though the Z06 has much more power. Although I'd probably bite the bullet and get a 911 Turbo.

Freaking you obviously miss the point of "forums", "threads", and "discussions".

I have every right to enter this thread, and flat out call these two cards worthless if I feel like it. I don't give half a crap whether or not you view my points to be relevant.

I'll tell you this much, my points of view are sure as hell more relevant than your walking around telling everyone that unless they think these cards are SUPER COOL for all the ridiculous money wasting folks out there, that they automatically don't know what they're talking about.

And I don't really see what right you have to say anyone here isn't an "enthusiast".

en?thu?si?ast (ěn-thōō'zē-āst')
n.

1. One who is filled with enthusiasm; one who is ardently absorbed in an interest or pursuit

Well guess what. I am filled with enthusiasm over gaming, and keeping my computer up to date so that I can play whatever I could possibly want, as I could possibly want. I also do more digital artwork than 90% of this community, and work for a video game developer. I'm going to say it's safe to call myself an enthusiast. And if you don't like it, feel free to go buy a GTX 480. Wasting that much money is practically a suitable punishment so far as I'm concerned.

While you're at it, go buy a Porsche.

And to answer your question, Junk. I've been in a bad mood these past couple days. It eases my brain. Though I'd more call it "Making my freedoms on EdgeGamers forums very apparent" as opposed to "arguing".

Too bad I didn't and wouldn't say that.

Obviously being in a bad mood the past couple days has affected your comprehension skills.

Mr. Redbull&Vodka speaks from a position of absolute authority on all subjects. You must've missed the memo, which in this case is equivalent to "post history".

I didn't notice the sarcasm, as it was actually a legit comparison. It is quite similar in that Nvidia = expensive high performance, while ATi = less expensive high performance, while lacking a few features.

And by the way, debating != not being calm. I am quite calm.

I still don't understand how you got that impression, so I am still left to assume that the fact you are in a bad mood is altering how you comprehend my posts.

Fyi, I am NOT getting a 480 or a 470, or any other Nvidia card that may come out this gen.

I just ordered a EVGA GTX 260 because of EVGA's step up program. Hopefully they will allow the GTX 260 to step up to the Fermi's, if not then I'm happy either way.
