Display drivver nvlddmkm stops responding and has successfully recover

I got this message (the title says it all) frequently and somehow it's automatically restarts my computer. However, my monitor has red and green lines and dots all over the screen. My computer reboots all the time when my PC starts up. Can anyone help me fix this error for my computer (i'm using my laptop to write this error btw)?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 hertz
Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB KO Edition
DirectX11 (Windows Vista Service Pack 2)
 
Sounds like your graphics card is dieing. Or if it has an overclock on it, it means that it can't handle it anymore. Windows is basically detecting that it's dieing and rolling over to a failsafe display driver that turns the card down to extremely low settings. Basically just enough to display the screen.
 
Pretty old card, so that could be the tell tell sign to get a new one. If it came factory overclocked, download Rivatuner or EVGA Precision and downclock it by about 20-30MHz, and check your temps.

And 8800 GTS is not an old card... Have you tried updating your drivers?

Well it's been almost 3 years. Dust builds up over time, without being cleaned it could drastically raise the temperatures.
 
If you were having a heat issue, which you may have been having, then removing the dust should lower the temps on your card.
 
sounds like it overheated and now its artifacting if cleaning does not help ... best i would say is that most companies do give a lifetime warranty on cards so give em a ring and maybe see if they could replace that it for you

what do i do with the red lines in my LCD monitor and how do i get rid of it?

dude usually that indicates that either the chip burned or that is going to burn soon u really should call up the manufacture of the car and find out if they could replace it cuz at that point is basically all u got

the chip from the monitor or u meant the video card?
 
i believe the issue is being caused by out of date video drivers.

Simply go to the nvidia website

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us

and download the latest drivers for your card. Make sure you know your exact card model and operating system.

updating the drivers could also fix your artifacting problems. However, even if it does fix the colored lines, it will be only temporary. I would start looking for a new video card. Your current card is on its last legs.

the funny thing is that i actually did download the latest update for Nvidia, and the ironic thing is that since i downloaded the steam beta, the post (the title of this) appears more frequently than before
