Hello i have been inactive for about a month and a half or so. I recently updated to windows 7 and whenever i try and run Day of Defeat i get an error message "CFileSystem_Steam::Init() failed: failed to find steam interface," i have googled this and done everything except contact valve. Deleted local game content, deleted steam from registry, updated drivers... etc. it looks like this. http://phbt.us/images/steam_error.jpg ..

My antivirus is AVG free edition, and i have PC Tools Antivirus that i just use for scanning.. my rig is as follows:
Windows 7 enterprise 64-bit
4 gigs ram
geforce gtx 260
amd 5000+ dual core
Asus M3n-E SLI motherboard

i dont know doesnt seem like a hardware issue.. I tried using the Go-Back feature but that didnt fix anything. this is very weird and any help i could get would be so appriciated. Thanks for putting up with me

Can you run any other Steam games?
Does this happen as soon as your tell it to play the game?

I click on the game, it says loading Day of Defeat Source, then directly after that it gives me the error. I get a different error conserning a steam.dll file if i try and run counter strike source. i will join you on vent shortly

still have not found a solution : / i hate it when i pay for stuff and it doesn't work

i tried your last solution Whisky, went to re-install steam and i get an instalation error 1303. "The installation has insufficient privileges to acess this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam. The Installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator." I don't understand because i am the only user for this computer...

In Windows 7, you have something called UAC(User Account Control).

If you get a prompt with the background shady, it should say:
"joe.exe is trying to run. Would you like to allow or prevent?".
I'm gonna guess since the insufficient privileges message, it's UAC's fault.

Try right clicking whatever it is and "Run as administrator".

Might help, if not I'm here.
Goodluck.

Can you confirm that you've tried to right click and run as admin, please?

Also, try this:
1) Shutdown steam.
2) Navigate to filesystem_steam.dll
3) Delete the .dll and run STEAM, it will replace it upon update.

yes i have ran it as an admin. i deleted the dll files and restarted steam it updated and i still get the same error. i was sure that was going to work.. i went in and deleted steam off of my programs list and deleted anything that had to do with steam from my registry, completely cleaned it off of both my hard drives and am about to install again.

I've one more solution.

Erase ALL games.
Erase ALL Steam, again.

Install BOTH by right clicking > running as admin.

This will hopefully ensure no problems.

Fixed.. Was a problem with PC Tools Antivirus not getting along with Steam. Disabled Behavior Guard from the IntelliGuard tools and everything is back to normal. Thank you guys for all your help and support, this is the way eGO is the way it is. Thanks! :)
