Hexcore Gulftown Chip

Rumor has it there will be a Gulftown based Hexacore in Q3 for ~$600. That's what I'm waiting for.

600 bucks is still way overpriced....

For hexacore and 32 nm channel width? Or just a processor in general. Getting that type of channel width is extremely tough. Even AMD doesn't have that kind of technology.

No it's not. That's the price you pay for the newest technology. the 920 is a decently priced chip. 8 threads x 2.66 = 21.28. 12 threads x 3.0 (rumored estimate clock speed) = 36. So roughly 170% (theoretical) performance for 200% the cost, not bad for brand new 32nm hexacore technology. If it's too expensive for you, you don't need it, simple as that.

Disclaimer: I know that threads x frequency is by no means a fair comparison of processors.

Plus, it's more densely packed with MOSFETs compared to even the i7 975. And see how it says HI+K Metal Gate? That means they use a completely different insulator in this MOSFETs between the gate and substrate. That means A LOT of materials research and such was put into this just to get it down to 32nm. Intel's tech is WAY ahead of AMD.

AMD is nowhere near Intel. Period. From what i know the 980x will be the best chip , x being xtreme edition with unlocked multi. So a "base" model 980 for half the cost would make sense. Just unnecessary for most nowadays but super cool to have i bet.

If i had the money I would buy it because I love Technology but until then......I will save up and by the that time it will be $150 lol! NOW THAT'S WHAT IM WAITING FOR $1500-600 bucks my @..!
Nice post man very interesting next year this time we will all be trying to buying hologram screens and selling our lcd's monitors lol!

And I think AMD is going to come out with a 7 core lol!

One of you could buy me one so i could test it to see how it runs.

Lol
You could get me one, too!

Also, didn't an
i7 930
just come out?
Is it the same as (45nm) 920 with a higher baseclock (or multi),
or is it 32nm?

Oh.
That's a bit disappointing.
But, it's only ~$8 more, and do you know if you it overclocks better?

yes i think the 930 has a different stepping (better?) than the 920, also a higher base clock which usually means a higher multiplier that would make it eaisier to oc

it might be but for my budget its still WAY overpriced. I ll be fine with a quadcore AMD but not until I get one next year for 2. For now I see no reason to replace my dual core.

I still dont see how anyone can justify forking over 1400 dollars for a processor especially if they just upgraded to a quadcore AMD or Intel i7 chip. Not to mention is the performance upgrade really worth spending that kind of money after just buying an intel or amd chip? I guess there are people out there who need to have the latest and greatest or people who just like to overclock for fun but really theres no need for this at the moment in the gaming world...
