Hey guys, I went to boot up my PS3 a few days ago, and to my avail I got an error.

It says something along the lines of it doesn't have the correct hard disk, or it can't read it, or something of the sort. It's the stock hard drive, so I don't knwo what it's supposed to mean? I tried holding the reset for three beeps, then holding it until a double beep, still no solution.

Any help would be appreciated. There's someone who lives a few hours away that can fix it for ~$40, but it seems kinda fishy, so I'm wanting to to it on my own.

If not, I plan on selling it, and buying a new one lol.

It'll be a lot easier if you can identify the EXACT message it says or some sort of error code number.

I'll continue to look at repair faq's though.

EDIT:
The error code numbers should look like this: "An error has occurred, Sony sucks. [80010514]"

Upon searching Google, I've found this:
Try the following:
Step 1 - Turn off the playstation 3 by holding the power button on the front of the unit till the power light is red.
Step 2 - Touch and hold the power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the playstation 3 is powering on.
Continue to hold the power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
Continue to hold the power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (power light is red).
Step 3 - Touch and hold the power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the playstation 3 to power on.
Continue to hold the power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
Continue to hold the power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At this point release the power button. if you succeeded in activating the safe mode, you will see a message on the screen saying 'connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button.'
Step 4 - Perform the safe mode options in the following order until one of the options works for you. If one option works, do not continue onto the other options.
Restore Default Settings
Restore File System
Rebuild Data Base
Restore PS3 System etc...

The entire ps3 online (none slim versions), has been down for nearly 3 days, not sure what to expect next.......

Is it possible that your HD is simply dead?

I tried all of that before, but I just tried it as well, still no fix.

The exact error message is: "Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found."

The thing is the yellow light where it shows the hdd is working is a solid light, not flickering.

Well, a lot of "Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found." threads upon Google suggested that the method I found does indeed work, but only on the original hdd's that came with your version, not any upgraded.

EDIT:
"It happens to me on a regular basis. It's a by-product of using one of the WD Scorpio HDDs.
A simple restart makes everything work normally. Small annoyance, but that's about it."

That guy suggests it happens often, but confirms the restarts work..Hm..

Try calling SONY like xSimon said.

EDIT2:
Solution 2:
I did something different though. There's a feature for "reduced power spinup" that is set with a jumper. I had to know what this was, so I did a search and found that someone had problems with Soul Calibur IV. He set the jumper to enable this and that fixed it. So, I just set mine that way when I installed it, and it's been that way ever since. Maybe someone who is having trouble with this could try doing that.

He linked to this, it seems to refer to jumpers on the PS3 HDD.

Although when you call Sony, expect foreign people on the phone who don't have a clue what their talking about, and read any possible solutions directly out of the ps3 manual. Then they'll suggest you send the ps3 in, and they'll just send a new one back

It's how things work these days
