Wow! Check out what I found! This should be amazing, you can view the demo
here. That's what I was thinking to do...
My idea (not relating to iWebKit) was this:
To have the site recognize specific user-agents (iPod, Berry...) and according to the agent, choose a specific stylesheet to style the site. Now eGO's main style currently is the default vBulletin one that comes in the vBulletin package, either that or it was generated by vBulletin's generator, because if you look at the code it says:
Code:
<meta name="generator" content="vBulletin 3.8.2" />
To completely revolutionize the site, there would be a few simple controls. There would be a button that says 'Post', one that says 'Read', and another one that says 'Update Profile', you know, the basics. No ads, of course, because ads can lag sites, especially on devices with most of the time high ping and low connection speed.
The way this would work would be this:
'Post`= You can connect to a certain thread and post on it. Of course, the thread would be in simplified form, letting the mobile user see the title of the thread, the first post, any post by the thread starter, and the last post. Then there would be a textarea underneath the last post much like the 'Quick Reply' I'm typing this in now, which the mobile user could type their message, and post it. The databases would connect the same, it's just the display that's changing.
'Read'= The user can view all threads with all posts in a simplified format (no fancy rounded corners, and option to display images for lag-less environment), and if they decide to post, there would be a button at the bottom that leads to the appropriate post page, for that thread.
'User Profile'= Currently, there are multiple pages in which the regular user can change every setting they could possibly need to ever change. That's a lot of settings, most of which aren't really
that important (eg. time zone, password, stuff like that). In my opinion, the important stuff would be things like subscribed threads, signature, and event reminders. Chances are the user who's mobile rather than on a desktop needs to change something quick, or view something important right then and there. They wouldn't need to change their avatar, because most people don't carry around their entire library of photographs on their Blackberry or iTouch/iPhone. Mobile people want to look at the simple form of sites, and have the simple controls that are simple to reach and simple to change. They want their information fast, and easy. It's difficult to code things this way, but it's worth it.
Who knows, maybe more people will join eGO, knowing that even though they're on the move a lot, they can still contribute to the clan and help out.
I've been coding websites for about a year now (since I was bout 13), but of course that doesn't mean I know exactly what I'm saying is true. This is mostly my opinion, with a little fact and some other stuff I don't know how to describe thrown in. If you're reading this, thank you, it shows you have patience to read through my entire post that took me about 5 minutes or hardcore typing

to type out.
Thanks, hope I could help!
