What the Engineer Update should not do...

wait. did i miss something? i know i was gone for a week, but when have spies become credit to team? :p

(and yes i understand i'm going to be harrassed by frisky because of this, but in reality he's the only one that has a right to a counter arguement)

I pity you if you have to waste an uber every time you wish to take out a sentry. Properly executed, a spy can help any class take out a sentry, even an engineer (Hey, let me help you remove that sapper from your sentry...Sorry, I seem to have destroyed it!). It is mainly the infusion of no-skill spies that has stopped this from happening as often, although a team can still easily get steamrolled if the other team has spies helping thier attackers! The last thing I want is a Engineer update that has the same effect on engys.

at this point i would just like to have a patch where it didn't break something else. please don't bork my ati card or processor again valve and i'll be happy.

If a spy can't take out 1 engy and his nest, they're doing it wrong and need to change classes. And claiming only one person can defend the entire class is ignorant.

I play soldier, so about 60% of the time i can take out a sentry with out a medic to even buff me.

same even if the engy is there taking it i always shoot my rockets on the wall behind or the floor so the engy and the dispenser takes damage too that way he has to choose between haveing him and everything go down or run away

very true iv seen other good spies but frisky is the only i see make a game changing difference as a spy.

He's also the only Spy that can actually backstab me often - something a lot of other failspies can't do.

He also actually works with his team, via mic communication - backstabbing key classes, gives us the go to attack a sentry nest when he begins his building saps.

That is someone who is credit to team (as a spy)

defiantly and he is the only spy who ever dominated me which say quite a bit

If an Engy is vigilant, it's actually really, really hard for the Spy to do very much.

Generally, it's better to take down buildings with a brute force approach than the sneaky approach because the sneaky approach is never sneaky enough.

The fact of the matter is that the engineer is designed to be the class which seals off the area from the other team. Adequately supported, he can stop an enemy team in its tracks. Anybody who plays badlands knows that 2-3 sentries with a few pyros on the roof can pretty much stop any enemy advance in their tracks, and make them think twice before turning the corner. I stated this in another thread as well: The engineer is designed as area denial and it would be impossible to change that without him becoming overpowered. Most engineers rely on their base to keep them alive, and it usually does until an uber comes through and cleans house.

Right now, I think the engineer needs no update, he is just fine the way he is. With support from his team via checking for spies and snipers shooting people outside his range, he is like a heavy with 3 medics on him, he is damn near invincible. Anybody who disputes this just needs to play PL maps a bit more.

ya i remeber playing blackmesa a few time and the opposing team couldn't get our gun with 13 ubers

that's when the spy should work with a other class sap tell your teammate and he kills the engy before he can kill the spy or get the sapper off.

lol i say a sentry gun on wheels would b awesome :D A heavy robot would b cool too.. but it should not b able to move cuz if it moves it would just destroy everything in its path :D

Ok, let me rephrase. A single spy vs. a single engy both of equal skill are fighting. The spy will win in almost all cases.

That isn't a class flaw, that's a map flaw. A vast majority of Valve maps, official and community, are cramped, chokepoint maps with 1-3 man pathways, 1-3 paths to the objectives, and very, very defendable positions. If maps were more open so that one sentry didn't cover at least 1 chokepoint alone, engies would be much more balanced.

With the mobile sentry I think that would be cool but it always follows you just very slow and less health because of its mobility....

2 other things that would be cool is a wall or ceiling turret.

Changing the wrench out for a pipe.

Nail Gun

Staple gun

electric tesla gun <-- my favorite

engineer update should not give the engineer a tank to drive around in a nuke it should also not give teh enigneer a ak-47 but it would be cool

I want to see the Guitar in the trailer, sounds ridiculous but looking back at Jarate and Sandvich it would be pretty funny.

Goggles to see Spies, I'm tired of trying to deal with sappers when all the Pyros are off W+M1 into the enemy.

That isn't true at all. In most cases, the presence of the Spy is rather obvious and rather easy to take care of.

Aside from building, the entire point of the Engy is to be vigilant and watch for his Sentry's blind spots. The entiiiire point of the Engy is to observe and engage when necessary.

That is exactly against the Spy. The entire point of the Spy is to be as sneaky as possible and then strike when a player lets down his/her guard. A Spy is at his best when he's unexpected. A competent Engy is always vigilant, always checking for Spies, making this generally very difficult.

Usually, at the very best, a Spy will destroy some of the Engy's buildings before being killed.

A Spy, for the purposes of taking out an Engy, works best when doing it in conjunction with a partner lying in wait for the sap. But this is contrary to the Spy's nature, and teaming up with a partner often makes it difficult for the Spy to be sneaky (although it is entirely possible and I've seen it done many times).

In any case, a single Demoman or Soldier, and in some cases a Scout or Heavy, can accomplish with brute force and finesse what a Spy generally cannot.

Yes, the Spy has a built-in weapon JUST for buildings, but it's actually not the best thing in the world for actually taking down an Engy.
