The sentries should add up to 3.

3 Level 1 sentries,

1 Level One And 1 Level 2

1 Level three,

There could be an option of building on multiple places, It won't be that over powered, and It sounds awesome. :D

Thoughts?

Bad idea; two level one sentries are pretty powerful, so I can't imagine having 3.

Yeah, I was about to say, 3 lvl 1's would be extremely powerful, although they would cost a ton of metal

Personally, I think 3 level 1 sentries would be underpowered. They ain't really that good... I mean, obviously the spy will say it's harder because he can't sap all three at once and backstab the engi... Unless, what if it did? Hmm...

Good point

The engineer would have to take care of 3 saps at a time, having those sentries placed with a reasonable distance between each other, 2 of the sentries would have to be sacrified in order to save one.

sap all three and backstab the engi

Challenge Accepted!

I think it'd be balanced with three, because:
  • The all got really low hp.
  • It would drain the engineer's metal FAST. Just think of building and REPAIRING.
  • If they're stacked, splash damage could easily take them all out at once.
  • Trying to repair three sentries are harsh.
  • One word: ?bercharge.
  • If they're spread across the map, it would be a piece of cake taking them out

Sounds pretty good man and if strategically placed teans couldnt take them out that easily it makes the team have to work together more +1

Being able to build 3 level1 sentries would make the engy more mobile. Plus much more easily usable on PL when you advance. You can set one sentry up, either leave it at 1 or get it to level 2 and then move on. You can set up another sentry a bit further, and if it fails, you still have your old one behind you.

I'd say that's too much of an upgrade though. 3 level1's is a bit OP. It wouldn't take much for them to take out a person. Repairing them is harder, of course, but... I dont know. I've been on servers with hacks for multiple sentries. It is fun to build loads of them, but it's too powerful to have many sentries at your disposal. Imagine 3 engies. They can build 9 sentries. Those would be pretty hard to take out unless you relentlessly attack them.

I actually like the idea. Although it is a straight upgrade, however engineers need an upgrade when compared to classes like demoman and soldier. (If the soldier can get a straight upgrade why can't a class like the engineer get one too?) One sentry is pretty easy to take out too. which kind of leaves the engineer somewhat helpless in some situations, because he relies on it so much.
Having 3 lvl 1 sentries dmg wise would be greater than 1 lvl 3 sentry. And having them tactically placed would be extremely fun. However my biggest concern would be the knockback affect every sentry has. If you face more then 2 sentries fireing at you and rush towards it with uber its going to litterally stop you dead in your tracks unless a medic is helping you walk forward. Other than the knock back of multiple sentries, its a great idea.

The point of this Idea is for the engineer to build a tactical base, There should be a restriction of how close all the sentries are together, but It would be usefull for something like building a trap, a scout goes in and there is a sentry in front of him, goes left and there is one there, then trys somewhere else and there is another one, then he goes somewhere else and falls into some huge camping place

I went over this repeatedly in my head. Infact, it would be a good idea, but there should be a limit within the radius(1 engi-foot = 1foot in this game) So only allow 2 sentries in a 10 yard radius which actually forces the engi to move around, alot. As you can see: Practical problems. The balance to 3 lvl 1 sentries should be, you guessed it, 3 lvl 1 dispensers. Thats alot of ammo. But its all a hassle to repair. Soldiers would steamroll it and it would render targencharge demos useless with that knockback. Its like a demoman charging me while I'm a Huntsman sniper(Typing fast, grammar not considered much), Its worthless. All you end up with is a pissed off 40 yr old drunken child molester playing as a pissed off drunken cyclops with a 200 year old sword and a broken shield, and a grenade launcher, in spawn. Worthless Demoman is worthless. All else being considered, this is a great tactical idea but with Valve's ingenuity they shall make something that would solely piss off every expert engineer by making these building situations a "Practical Problem." And what do you do when you have a practical problem? Build a gun. If that don't work, build more gun. Now back to Valve's ingenuity, this boomshakalaka of a long statement all leads up to this one simple irresistable argument: Whatever Valve makes, it undermines all ideas and makes the smart people look like hippies. Another One Bites The Dust.(By the way they always give clues somewhere. "Build more gun" is a very enlightening statement.)

'nuff said.

I like the idea. It would be fun to set up a level one sentry as a decoy, and then right around the corner a level 2!

i seem to recall posting this suggestion a couple months ago ;)

"3 level 1's
2 level 2's
1 level 3"

i do believe the engie will end up with nothing really too tempting, but then i play "vanilla" with most characters, rarely using the 'upgrades'

Engie might get a "projectile object" so to speak though, a wrench or a piece of metal he could throw at a spy to kill it as it runs away, or throw it at a sentry to stop a sap from a distance... but, i do believe that would fall into the same category as the recent failed ideas that valve has posted. will be a difficult class to balance out without making it ridiculously overpowered. engie already has a pretty good setup with the right teammates around to lend some support. other than a long distance direct hit or an uber'ed demo/pyro/etc there's not a whole lot that can easily destroy sentries for most people.

Hmmm, 3 sentries can be really hard to overcome, even if they are level 1. Let's leave it up to valve to find an awesomely unbalanced weapon for the engie, shall we?
