Okay, so I bought a Toshiba Satellite L505D about 2 months ago, and I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade it a bit. I basically don't know too much about what I can and can not do with a laptop.

Here's the specs - (idk what im saying really)
Processor - AMD Turion(tm) II Dual Core Mobile M500 2.2 GHZ
RAM - 4GB DDR2 SDRAM - 800 MHz
HD - 287GB
Graphics card- ATI Radeon 4100 (Not sure if thats right, I googled my laptop cause I cannot find where it says anywhere on my comp)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Basically, I want to know what I can upgrade on this? And if it would be cheap or not. Basically, I want my computer to run games smoother. Like with COD4, I have to use gamebooster to get rid of the lag, and then it still lags a bit. (Not connection lag)

I'm thinking I might need to upgrade my CPU, and I know I need a better graphics card, but I don't know if I can upgrade these, and how much it might cost? Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info on the comp, let me know :P

Thanks again.

hmm it is showing the correct amount of harddrive space the actull drive is 320 but when it is formatted the filesystem it's self takes some space.

and for upgrades there is really nothing you can do, the olny thing that can really be upgraded on laptops is the ram and the harddrive and 4gb ram is enough for most games that are out now. it is the weak graphics card and slower processor that are killing the performance for you.

the best you could really do is just make sure the system is in top space and has no background apps, virsues or spyware eating away at your performance, and possibly a ram upgrade to 6 or 8gb but that might not be possible and it would only have a small gain.

In laptops, you can't really do much besides RAM and hard drive. And I'm fairly sure there aren't Any 7200rpm hard drivers for laptops :/

there 5,400rpm which is kinda funny with my laptop how the external i use with it is 10,000rpm

Aww darn. I guess I need to look into getting me a desktop computer then ): Thanks tho guys. And I could upgrade to 8GB of ram if I wanted, but.. I think thats a bit expensive, and 4gb seems to be good. :D

you can try to sell the laptop while it is relatively new, and use that money to buy a desktop.

Or I could just buy a desktop and keep the laptop. I rely on my laptop in case I go over to my friends house and we play together. And if I can talk my mom into letting me use my monies in the bank, I can easily just get a decent desktop. Upgrade if need be, and call er' good.

Well thanks for asking that question Chairface. I was wondering if id be able to slap a faster processor into my laptop but i guess not. This answers my question

If there aren't any 7200RPM 2.5" Laptop HDDs, then how do I have two of them, one in my laptop and one as in an external case?

Most stock laptops from ASUS, ACER, MSI, and some others come with 7200RPM drives, though SSD are as good as 10000RPM though they cost a lot more than they're worth as of now.

A faster disk just means better loading times if its kept defragmented and no viruses/malware/etc.

Mind you, most SSD's degarde over time unless they have some form of junk-management i.e. Trim.
I'm just going to ask on a limb here, did you turn down your settings like AA, resolution Dynamic Lighting and such?

For your desktop, please don't waste money from a stock PC from bestbuy. Buy the parts and build it, or your going to be in the same predicement you are with your laptop. Not being able to play any games.

SSD's nowadays don't. The amount of time before you actually notice degradation is like 100000 hours or something. Or writes. Either way, that will take a long time to reach.
