Uh. I'm not sure how the money earned towards PC games justifys not wasting time, unless your making all the money because you work at blizzard or something. :D

Then again, just shows how many people are playing PC games. So your wasting time, with a LOT of people.

A lot of people play on consoles because a console is much smaller and cheaper to game one, you don't have to be a tech expert to get it running either. In the end though, pc gaming rises above all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a recent entrant in the pc gaming, most of my console gaming though is on older game consoles, I think console games are dying for the most part, we have better FPS's and RTS's, plus most games we can customize easily and updates are easy to find and recive instead of getting a bugged game out of the bxo.

So how much money was lost to pirates?
PC gaming to moving into the Download realm faster then consoles, simply to beat pirates. NDP records only retail sales within stores so services like Steam and Direct2Drive don't count in these numbers. Consoles aren't dying either, just look at how well the xBox still sales now, couple hundred thousand to a million a month.
It's also a simple decision of money, most people are comfortable with controllers and to pay $300 for a xBox, and two games is very convenient. Turn that over to PC gaming, $500 for a low-end PC, no games.

This is an interesting article.

This is what i believe. In the long term PC gaming will drop in terms of market share.

I feel this way because of the graphical demands of recent and future games. In order to play a brand new game, lets say MW2 and Bad Company 2 at optimum quality you need to own a system that is the price range of about $1500-2000. When you also factor in the fact that as more games are released the demands for these games rise as well. Thus upgrading ones system is important in order to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Now consider Console gaming. For this type of gaming you have to factor in both the price of the gaming system and the television. In order to make this argument fair and balanced I must put both on a level playing field and assume that the user is trying to get the best preformance possible out of their system. HDMI compatible televisions depending on size and brand vary in price from as low as $200 to tens of thousands. However your average HDMI television is roughly in the $600 - $1000 dollar range. The consoles themselves usually launch for close to $500+ but as time progresses they drop significantly.

What separates the two styles of gaming is upgrade ability. While a PC must be upgraded in order to maintain its preformance; a consoles preformance improves over the life cycle. As developers are able to make more powerful games for the same console.

I must say that I am not strictly a PC gamer nor a console gamer. I believe both both have positives and negatives associated with them. PCs are great for First person shooters and its hard to imagine playing an RTS on anything but a PC. However I can't see myself playing anything but FPS games and RTS's on a PC. Due to the fact that game controllers are becoming more advanced an increasingly large number of games are better for consoles.

For me my PC is for games like Counter-Strike, WoW and Warcraft. Where as my xbox serves me with a much larger gaming catalog. But it all comes down to preference.

Although I do see PC gaming becoming much more of a niche market.
