Keyboard and Moni Cleaning

Ok, not sure if I should post this in the Tech help, but here it is:

I have a laptop (Dell Studio 1555). I have had it for about 6 months, and the keyboard and "palm area" is getting kinda nasty feeling from like oil and stuff (i think) also when I close the lid the keys leave little "smears" on the screen that make it look ugly and sometimes hard to see what is on the screen. I have tried to use a special cleaning cloth but it does not work :(

What is the best way to clean it?
 
I'd get a towl really really hot. But take most of the water out of it. Then just *lightly* go over it. Once that's just let it air dry.
 
Personally I use cleaning alcohol (70% Isopropyl Alcohol) to clean my monitor and keyboard when they start getting dirty or oily. Just put a little cleaning alcohol on a paper towel or piece of cotton and scrub the surface gently. It removes oil especially well. Water stains and fingerprints come right off the monitor.

I've done that before and it made mine have huge streeks and lines across everything. The hot rag works great.
 
I actually got a kit with my computer too. But i've never tried it. I'll give it a go next time i need to clean my computer and I'll post you guys the results.
 
Most laptops can have their keyboards easily removed, which makes it easier to clean it.
Just google for instructions for your model.

To prevent the key from touching the screen (and making it dirty), place some kind of foam film on the keys.
