Hey guys, got a big decision for next year
a close by university with a pretty good rep (schulich)
or a farther away university not as known, but very decent, with a double degree and co-op but will land me maybe 15k in debt CAD (laurier)

not mattering what school they are, would u live away from home for the experience or stay at home?

i choose live away from home but i dont think i count cause i left home when i was 16 anyways so no change for me just a new city
 
To save cash I'm staying home and going to a local university, which is like 10 min away. Though I would have preferred to get the hell away from my parents.

I am planning on going away for grad school.
 
If you're in Canada, debt isn't something you need to worry about. Especially if you're going to Schulich or Math/Business.

Plus, you can get ~15k each co-op term.

yes but apparently they look at your family income when giving out Canada student loans and i got screwed because my family makes too much for me to get one, even know i am disconnected from them.

so i had to get a bank loan anyways and go into debt.
 
I got to a community college, still have fun and live at home. Im not much of a drinker anyways.

I would live away, but all of this really comes down to you, not to a bunnch of silly people on the internet. The decision will ultimetly effect you, and see as we're not you and don't necessarily know your personality, that will ultimitely impede our final decision.

Think that's T.L.D.R. material?

Short version: It's on your shoulders, we don't know you like you do
 
Ya I go to community college as well, with plans to transfer to a regular college to finish up my degree.

In doing so I will come out of college debt free.
 
Well obviously it doesn't depend on you guys, just trying to figure out some angles i might have missed..
 
I live 5 minutes away from my current school, but this school is till my 18th age, so I cant do a job after this school. After this I have to do my last 4 years on another school. And I'm afraid I will have to go far away from home and live in a small house:P
 
I would say another important consideration is what you're going to major in - which school has the stronger program for what you want to do career-wise?
 
15k each co-op term? I was thinking like.. 8k for 4 months, or is that average? Don't know how much people get paid for co-op now a days?
 
Im living away from home because that is my chance to get away on my own and its necessary for my major to be around all the time.

Schulich is a great school. I know a lot of people who went there. The thing about York University is that it is basically high school round 2. You commute to campus, take your classes and commute home. There is almost no social environment.

My older brothers friend had to pick between these two schools as well. He went with Laurier. The Co-op program is extremely helpful as it gives you actual hands on experience in the business world.

I'm not a business student but I applied to York as well, it was my safety pick.

I'm wrapping up my first year at Brock and I must say I definatley had more fun this year than any other year of my life thus far. I met brand new people and to be honest the people I met and live with have more in common with me than my friends back home in Thornhill.

Its up to you. Make a choice based on what you wanna do. But I say live away from home.
