2012 isn't really a scientific theory. I think it falls under the category of conspiracy theory or just stupid.
Here are a few thing for you to put your mind at easy:
The Mayan calendar doesn't end, it's a circular calendar and just restarts. Basically 2012 is their millennium.
We have yet to find any Mayan text associating 2012 with any doomsday prophecy.
The modern ancestry of the Mayans call BS on the whole thing. Also, yes, there are a couple thousand people in Mexico who still speak and live the Mayan language and culture.
People who have dedicated their entire live to studying the Mayan culture also call BS on the 2012 doomsday thing. They're actually annoyed that people are just focusing on the calendar and missing the rest of a really cool culture.
Here are a few other things:
We are over due of a polar switch, but that can take 1000s of years to complete.
The earth was hit with the worst solar flare on record in the year 2000...yes, we obviously survived.
The last true galactic alignment happened in 1998...don't ask why this is relevant.

everything regarding evolution of all and any sorts - i can't fathom how anybody can buy into what they say

Strange I find that evolution makes so much sense, that I can not fathom it being false.
Though I do think that a debate on the validity of evolution will probably get this thread locked.

I'm a pragmatist, I believe in kill off stupidity with information before it can spreads. I've made it my personal mission to kill the 2012 movement before it's creators can make more money.

According to Michio Kaku, time can actually move backwards. The likely hood this happening though is so astronomically low, that it will probably only happen once in the entire history of the Universe.

i once watched this quantum physics movie called what the bleep do you know or something like that. I turned it off when it started to tell me that you are unable to see what is there, if you haven't seen it before. It tried to explain that indians didn't see big sail ships and such because they hadn't seen that thing before, so they were unable to fathom it even existed making it invisible to their eyes, basically.
Turned it off, returned it to Jumbo Video and laughed very hard the entire way.

What the Bleep Do We Know!? is a bunch of pseudoscience put out by what is basically a cult. Almost nothing in that movie should be taken as fact and, as you did, should be laughed at quite vigorously.
It took me a week to convince my step-mom that it was bunch of bull-pucky. That along with The Secret...I still haven't gotten her off of that one.
