Learning A Second Language

Any tips/tricks for learning a second language? I currently got Rosetta Stone: German installing on my computer and plan to start digging my heels into it.

The best thing for me was always to actually use the language you're learning as much as possible, by either learning with a friend, or just speaking it at them. Friends that speak it as native language is the best, but....sometimes hard.

Keep practicing once you do start it. I started listening to Rammstein after my first year of German (took 3 total in high school) and I still retain most of my understanding of the language.

being able to practice it or even just listen to it made it easy for me to learn, not to mention that English is derived from German

Ah, German, and excellent choice. I'm taking German 2 next year in high school, and let me say, it really is a great language. Deutsch ist phantastisch.

If you need any help, you can always ask me. I've got some experience of the language.

Speak it as often as you can. Use it in every day language, even if in the littlest amount.

Ive taken 3 years of french so I know a thing or two.

Thanks for the tips guys, another friend and I are actually learning it together so we can turn in reports and reply to teachers in German so we try to talk to each other in German the most we can.

Yeah, taking an interest in the culture makes a HUGE Improvement! I really suggest you get involved with something German...

Get a German-speaking pen pal. I'm not learning German (I would love to) but my cousin in Switzerland is learning English and so we e-mail each other a lot. I correct her e-mails for her and she teaches me the occasional German/Italian/Romancshe/Swiss German/French phrase.

Really, just go to school in Switzerland. They teach every language it seems like.

My primary language is Danish,
7 years ago I started having English
3 Years a go i started having german
? year ago I started having french
And now, I'm super awesome and able to understand those languages, exept french, which still is awfully hard... But its coming

Anyways, my advise would be, practice, practice, practice, every day, more than once a day, talk to yourself, to others (even though they don't understand you) , to the mirror, and use music from those countries.. Like Tokio Hotel, Rammstein, Mega Herz, if german, for example...

Subtitled movies and music can also help you learn faster, but like others said above the best thing is to practice it as much as you can!!

Don't forget Ramstein. That is an essential for any person who is learning German. And it's pretty good if you're into foreign rock/metal.

I was forced to learn french at school for 11 years.
