Graphic Card has Unknown Smudges

I took out the Geforce 8800 a couple of days ago. When I unscrew the graphic card cover, it has smudges (unknown 'liquid' inside of the graphic card where the gray square is, it has smudges inside, but I didn't do anything to the graphic card for 2 years. I didn't put water, oil, or anything at all. It was already like that. Can anyone tell me about this issue on the graphic card?
 
Sounds like it overheated at some point.

Do you have good cool air circulation within your PC?

less likely, can this be a physical damage to the graphic card?
NVIDIA said that they would accept my graphic card, but won't accept the card if it contains physical damage (i didn't do anything to it at all)
 
You mean you took the heatsink off?

If you did you would have to replace the thermal grease. Who is the manufacturer? (EVGA, XFX, Asus, etc)

my manufacturer is EVGA
it's not the heatsink, it's the gray square thing that is attach to the outside cover
 
If it's EVGA you should have no problems getting it replaced. Their warranty policies and customer service are second to none in the industry.

yes that's true, but i feared that if EVGA would see my graphic card that has thermal paste all over the gray square and part of the outside cover, then they might won't accept my graphic card and won't get a replacement for my card
 
They'll accept it as long as it's still under warranty.

As long as there is no physical damage (aka you ran it over with your car, threw it at a wall, etc) they'll take it.

EVGA is one of the few graphics card manufacturers who don't void your warranty if you remove the stock heatsink.

You would be really surprised. They accept returns in almost any condition, and they actually persuade you to overclock, and if it fails they will still return it. Just get a hold of their support and chat with someone. Should be no problem though.

Edit. Forgot to mention, since they don't carry the 8800's anymore, they will send you a newer card of an equal performance. Most likely a GTS 250.

Kind of hard to say, but I'm sure they will.

So from what i gather, you took on the Heatsink, and on the actual GPU there is liquid?

That is the thermal paste, it helps transfer heat from the GPU to the heatsink

nothing to worry about, but when you put the heatsink back on, you will need reapply new paste.

But if the card is working fine, then i wouldn't bother sending it in.

well..about the card...when the card is used, the monitor has red lines on it...showing that I have a video card problem
 
I would definitely try to get a new one from EVGA then, knowing their service, they probably will get you a new something
