I have an Alienware Area-51 M7700 or Clevo D900T. I have a Pentium 4 3.8g processor. 3 gig ram. nVidia Gforce go 6800 256.

My question is. Would it be worth the time and money to upgrade to a Clevo D900K mobo setup which will max out at a AMD Athelon 64 x2 2.2g dual core and a nVidia Gforce 7800gtx I think 512.

The tricky part will be finding a Motherboard, they are kinda scarce. But the Video Cards and Processors are readily available.

In the long run you could get a CPU/MOBO combo.. for less than upgrading an older model. I would highly recommend piecing together your own rig (if you know what you're doing). Really it depends on your needs and ambition (and pocketbook i suppose)

No, it is not worth the money.
Just spend your money on newer, more modern parts
Such as AM3, 1156 or 1366 processors and HD 5000 series graphics card.
And DDR3 RAM/Motherboard of course.

finding one of those would probably cost like $500 for that you could just build a new desktop that would preform 4x better.

Also you could sell the Alienware and get even more money for a new pc

But the thing on buying a better newer MOBO combo is that I have a laptop and there are only two that will fit in here. That is why I asked about upgrading to the other.

In the long run you'll still end up spending more money to upgrade than you will purchasing a brand new notebook, and you still won't have the same power as even a mid-range new machine.

Clevo D900K motherboard: ~$280 - $400
AMD Mobile Processor: ~$150 - $300
nVidia Geforce 7800 gtx: ~$180 (and that's the 256 MB model)
Total: ~$630

Brand new HP Pavilion dv6t series (core i3, 3GB DDR3 RAM, 320gig HD) ~$699

Now obviously you might be looking for a different machine, I just wanted to point out that you'll be spending just a little more money for something that's going to be a lot more powerful and last you a much longer time.

Just my personal opinion...if your machine is older than an AMD 64 x2 then it's probably not worth flushing any more money into it for upgrades. Save your pennies and purchase a new computer :-)
