Smartphones

im looking for a new smartphone because my contract on my blackberry storm is going to end in a week.

and iv been kinda interested in the Droid and Nexus One.

so has anyone here had any experience with either phone of know of any other good smartphones on the market. i was thinking of droid or nexus one cause i like the idea of the Android but if all else fails i will prolly go for an other blackberry like a bold or storm2.

i always had blackberrys but im interested in the droid, milestone and nexus one becuase they are open platforms and easy to develop software for.

put just want to know what peoples experiences are with them as far as usability and performance.

I think it's the 9700. I only know the code names of the phones lol. RIM gave me one when I started working for them. This phone's amazing.

I have a Motorola Droid (and so does FreakingHell).

I have to say, it is pretty great. It is well built, and the slide out keyboard is a real plus.

PROS:
-Physical Keyboard
-Sexy screen
-Verizon Network
-Many useful free apps
-fairly fast
-Android

Cons:
-Bulky (not a big deal for me)
-Android is kinda buggy (occasional freezes, but nothing major)
-STILL NO ANDROID 2.1 (wtf moto?)
-market only has a few high quality games


I think for someone like you that is really into linux and that kind of stuff, if would be a great phone. The android OS is very flexible, when ever i tether or use my GBA emulator, all my iPhone friends are like :

"wow i wish my phone could do that!"

but when they are playing doodle jump, im all like:

"at least i have papi jump..."

If you care about business features it's Blackberry. No question about that. But Android has the better UI especially the Nexus, it's the best Android device IMO.
If you care about the Apps, then get a iPhone. No other mobile platform can offer what Apple does regarding user generated apps.

ya thanks i found an x86 version of android that i was testing in virtualbox and i like the UI but im still trying to figure out which one i mainly use it for my business but my calender syncs with google calnder anyways and i use gmail for the backend of my domain e-mail address so haveing something based on googles services can be helpfull. but the blackberrys are just well made and pretty much never glitch or crash.

and iphone no freaking way apple already has enough chains around stuff that i paid a pretty penny for.

it this point it will prolly come more down to providers in deciding if it's a blackberry bold or one off the droid based phones

Verizon has always been my carrier. My mom has been with them since phones looked like this (one on the left):

I have a Droid and love it. My one complaint about it? Probably battery life, and that the first time I let my girlfriend hold it the screen got scratched lol.
