ever noticed how it's always one of the last 3 bullets of the clip that HS even though they most likely missed every other bullet...

thats pretty much it right there. Just practice strafing and stopping for like a split second and you'll do great. With the garand its important to spam alot of shots without stopping for too long cuz then you're just an easy kill. Kar on the other hand, learn to use corners of buildings as cover. Pop out, take a shot, hide, pop out, take a shot, hide.
Pro Tip: If you strafe left, stop for a splitsecond to shoot, then sprint right (or the opposite side you strafed), it'll give the illusion of not even stopping.
Oh, and i never ironsight unless its a faraway mg

the problem with you rifleman is your longevity. You can't stay alive, on average, for more than two kills. You either get snuck up on, surprised, or you miss and then you die, so my greatest advice would not be tips on how to shoot, but instead how to get the hell away from trouble when it comes to find you. The rifle classes are plagued by low Kills per Death ratios

It's all good my man. I'm 100% terrible with the rifle, just recently have i been using it and TRYING to get good, but that usually doesn't end to well =[

YES. If you don't use your nades then you're not a rifleman. I get upset more when I die without parking them somewhere than when I die before getting a kill (especially since they usually get kills).
Sigh...unfortunately so true. It's a very streaky class because you can rack up your 6-,7-,8-kill streaks when you're on fire, but then you get those streaks where you just happen to miss with that first shot and then you're a target for the longest second of your life.
Another thing you should try doing it the "quick switch". Its basically hitting the change weapon button, default is "q" every time after a shot. Its very useful because you skip the reloading animation, but it takes a while to get used to though.

Here's something I can help with. I was in a realism unit and all I used was rifle the first month, and I was rifle on my squad, so it was either get better or die a lot.
General Advice: Rifle is one weapon where you do not want to crouch and shoot. Your rate of fire is slower than everyone else's and less powerful than a sniper's. Sprint is your best friend. Practice sprinting, pausing to take a shot, and then continuing. STRAFE!!! Now I know people tell you never to move when you shoot because it IS less accurate, but you can't afford to stand still and shoot, always have some sort of cover. Use your nades: Learn to prime them by shooting them on the ground and pressing E quickly and throw them where you're headed, it will help clear out enemies. Finally, I recommend drawing your pistol in buildings, rifles are hard to use quickly in enclosed spaces anyway.
K98: Honestly this was the hardest gun for me to use because it's so bloody slow. Aim for the center of mass, all you need to do is hit the chest and they're dead. Don't be afraid to use iron sights over a range...I use them to see people since my vision is so bad, then I just use crosshair. K98 is excellent for strafing corners, you pop out, fire, pop back in.
M1 GARAND: I'm one of the few people better with garand than k98, and it all started when I started aiming for the head. I used to create my own server, play with bots moving at random, and just practicing shooting them as quickly and accurately as possible. Since the head is a tough target, I'd say aim for the upper chest/neck, that will mean you could still get a HS, or hit for 80. Garand is the only gun I move and shoot with. You have 8 shots, 2 will kill, but staying still is death. Practice strafe shooting, stepping side to side focused on your target in the center. Iron sights on the garand are fantastic, don't be afraid to start rifleman as a distance only person, but again, try to stay standing!
Other thoughts: At the end of the day, rifleman takes practice. I think it is probably the hardest class, maybe after rocket (not your secondary, actual rocket). Be prepared for horrible scores, maybe don't play on eGO if you're worried about your rank and points. I recommend orange maps, people can't hide as well, there tend to be really good players there, so you'll be forced to have to get better. Hey, stop by a realism unit server sometime too, lots of rifles there, and they really are good. Or talk to cpt gomez, that guy can use a rifle and he's played a few times on my old servers. Crosshairs, I use the default one. I tried the dot and the x, but I think that the expanding crosshairs help with rifle because it reflects how inaccurate that shot will be compared to standstill.

I like what homosapien had to say more than most anybody else because I agree with the part about NOT stopping to fire. Standing still just means death. If you want to get good as a rifleman, go the extra mile of trying to be good at making your shots on the move, or else you're gonna be pretty much screwed.
Especially with the K98, since you have such a little window to make that kill or die (you miss and you're pretty much dead), learn your site-lines. Know the exact elevation of windows and the exact rifle angle/strafe time ratio to piss of well-positioned snipers or MGs--there are few things more satisfying than just popping out and getting that random, one-hit, kill.

My advice would be when using the M1, you want to shoot at your target in 4 round bursts...get used to smamming your mouse button...if you only have 2 rounds left in the clip empty it so you have a full clip when you engage someone. The K98 might be hard for you to get the hang of but if you force yourself to use it enough you will figure it out.
Also like some others have said, keep your distance and try and stay at midrange from your targets. This might take some practice on learning good spots in certain maps. One other thing is the both rifles shoot through walls fairly well so if there is a wall you know that you can shoot through with a chance there is an enemy behind, spam the wall while your getting to your postion on the map. Never know when you might get lucky and wall somebody.
