So I've decided to take my old desktop an update it a bit and I want to get a new processor. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if all AM2 socket processors work in that socket. I was looking on the computer and in the spec thing it said what the possible processors were and there were just a few of them. one of them being the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+. So I was thinking ok, but what about the other better AM2 or AM2+ processors? Is an issue of heat? 65W vs 95W. I'm not the biggest tech guy out there so I'm just curious if anyone can help!

You can only get Am2 proccesors, not am2+ just Am2. Quite honestly anything you get for an Am2 socket right now is going to be severely outdated and not worth updating to.

Time to get a AM3 motherboard and a nice CPU for it.

Just buying a new Am2 proccesor won't help you at all, they're already outdated.

Heat and Power are only part of the issue, the motherboard's bios might not support newer CPU's. I suggest just saving up a bit more for a brand new motherboard+cpu.

from what i'm hearing getting a new motherboard seems like the way to go. i don't do much with this computer so I wasn't really planning on putting too much into but if it wont really be worth it, a more complete upgrade may be in order
