"What" and "why" a facestab is.

For a lot of people this will be able to explain what facestabs are and, really, why Valve has not or can not simply "fix" it.

The next-to-last section can also help explain why you see those fantastic 10-30' melee swipes, and the last section can actually be turned to help you learn the principles of side-stabbing as a spy.
 
So.... since they can't "fix" it, they should just get ride of it :)

but honestly, in real life, you have an extremely small area to kill someone instantly with a backstab, and there is no way you can do it consistently. So i just dont get where the idea of an insta kill backstab came from anyways.

tf2 isnt supposed to be realistic and is based on QWTF which is even less realistic, but im pretty sure in the first QWTF they were wanting it to be a slit throat but count do a proper animation for it.
 
So, instead of blaming the person who killed us we should all blame lag. If people already didn't do this before hand, this is another reason they can! D:
 
Only way to "fix" it is to remove the spy class.

The Spy is more than just a backstab and run class, his primary job is to sap enemy buildings and take out targets that are a danger to the team. Some people just play him to backstab random people.

Or it was featured on Ubercharged.net and conveniently provided to me in between my sessions of relaxing in a hot tub with four dead presidents and saving babies from burning buildings.
 
Just think of the facestabs as random crits for the spy! A heavy with random crits usually kills in one hit, so this is just the spy doing the same!
 
Now they understand why its called a SPY. They implement this hit CUBE. I call shananigans

I don't know if that is where I first heard that justification for facestabs. What I do remember is airblasting you in fright while screaming off mic: "GET AWAY FROM ME KEVINMASTER" when we were on the payload server yesterday and you were trying to melee fight me! Then you tried to taunt kill me! Evil, evil Kevinmaster!
 
Oh, hey, it is! Wow, thats pretty sad I didn't notice there was no n :P kevinmaster just flows off the tongue though!

I also remember a certain uber sniper with the kukuri yesterday that I had to defend against... You certainly keep me on my toes when you are playing!
