"What" and "why" a facestab is.

Wow, seems that everyone just got learned.

lols!

Wait so a backstab isn't just a 50-50 chance?

I think I've been playing spy wrong.

Nope, you were right all along. :D

I find it interesting that he specifies that "bullet attacks" travel straight from the eyes through the crosshair. What isn't a bullet attack? I've noticed that the rockets and grenades fire from the gun through the crosshair, but is that only visual effect? Sometimes it's seemed as though when I'm making precision shots with the pipe bombs through small gaps I do need to aim a little further left than the crosshair, but I could just be crazy.

If you play soldier a lot, you'll learn really quick that it's easier to splash around corners to your right than to your left. The rocket fires from the right.

Definantly agreed. The rockets definantly fire from the right side. This would make sense becase the rocket launcher is one of the only weapons that isn't carried with the barrel almost in line with the viewpoint. It probably does the bullet from the eyes to simplify things (and I have noticed medigun darts leaving before the gun ends when watching recordings of gameplay) for most guns, but the rocket also has several other attributes that probably need special circumstances anyways (rocket trail and all)

All weapons have a right or left bias depending on whether you have viewmodel set to default or reversed, right if its normal, left if its reversed. It is most noticeable though in the rocket launchers, grenade launchers, and huntsman.

The Spy is more than just a backstab and run class, his primary job is to sap enemy buildings and take out targets that are a danger to the team. Some people just play him to backstab random people.

The Spy, out of the three classes which were designed to take out buildings, is definitely the worst at taking out buildings, especially if there are other classes backing up the Engineer.

He's best used for taking out specific high-priority enemies, except the Sniper is already much better at doing that in most situations and the Spy needs to work so much harder for the kill.

So, pretty much the Spy is just there for the fun of it. He's a radically different type of class to play and he's a lot of fun, but tactically he's not too useful compared to the capabilities of the other classes.

All hitscan weapons fire straight out of the model's eyes from the middle. Essentially, the middle of the screen where your crosshair is the direct line of sight of the hitscan weapon you are firing. The "tracers" you see coming out of the gun with each shot is entirely cosmetic and is not representative of the gun's trajectory at all. In reality, the hitscan weapon has already hit or missed the person long before the tracers get anywhere near.

All projectile weapons fire from the side the viewmodel is on. So if your rocket launcher/grenade launcher/huntsman/etc. is placed on the right side of your screen, your projectiles are coming out of there.

This makes sense because if you've ever been vent-camped by a heavy:cursing:, then you know when he comes down to the table room his gun is sticking through the wall and his tracers coming out of it and you're still dieing.

I figured that, amongst some of the more experienced TF2 players, the explanation of facestabs was common knowledge.

Either way, it's a helpful thread and I learned a little from it that I didn't know before, and I'm sure many of our other members have either. Great find.
