Or Island of the Dolls​


Easily the creepiest place in Mexico. Located south of Mexico City with in an extensive network of canals sits an island were just about every tree is decorated with mutilated dolls.

The background story has something to do with a crazy hermit attempting to appease some angry spirit by mutilating dolls and sticking them onto trees. Moral of the story: Crazy people are crazy.

Overtoun Bridge​

The bridge where dogs off themselves.

According to Wikipedia:

It is not known exactly when or why dogs began to leap from the bridge, but studies indicate that these deaths might have begun during the 1950s or 1960s, at the rate of about one dog a month.

The long leap from the bridge onto the waterfalls of the Overtoun Estate almost always results in immediate death. Inexplicably, some dogs have actually survived, recuperated, and then returned to the site to jump again. These dogs are known to the locals of Dumbarton as "second timers." The dogs have mostly jumped from one side of the bridge, during clear weather, and have mostly been breeds with long noses.

The phenomenon has received international attention, and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has sent representatives to investigate. David Sexton, an animal habitat expert, discovered there to be mice and mink residing in the underbrush of the bridge. In a test, he distributed odor from all three species in a field and unleashed ten dogs - of the varieties which have died at the bridge - to see which one most interested them. Of the ten dogs tested, only two showed no interest in any of the scents while 70 per cent made straight for the mink

When I use to do block masonry, one of the Mexican laborers that worked with us was telling us about this one day at lunch. Always thought it was just some story he made up to joke around with us until I was watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations last year and they showed the island and talked with the man's son. Was very very creepy.

Centralia, Pennsylvania​

It's Silent Hill the town.

Basically some how a mine fire started underneath the town in 1962. The fire is still burning today. That's right nearly 50 years.

Now because the fire is underneath the town, the ground has become unstable...so nearly the who place has been evacuated. Mostly due to sinkholes that drop into fire and the large amount of carbon-monoxide pouring out of the ground.

As of the recent census...well the 2000 one: There are 21 people living there. So ghost town that has large amount of noxious fumes and the ground can split open and eat you.

Dunkin Donuts​

According to legend, Dunkin Donuts is a place where people go to get fat; interestingly enough, when queried, 8 out of 10 people said they were intent on 'watching their weight'. So why do they continually return to this mysterious site day after day?

An independent researcher may have the answer. He took several dozen people to an isolated field. One half of the field had been covered with dunkin donuts while the other half was left pristine. After several days of isolation, the people had completely devoured the donuts. Coincidence? I think not.​

Subway has been rumored to be the scariest place on earth due to its mysterious and satanic rituals. Rumors have it that people go into the store a huge mess, but after coming back for months, they change. Paranormal specialists are still shocked by this change and have called this phenominon as "weight loss."

Wow guys I thought Dunkin Doughnuts was bad, but when I read this, it was a totally different story. I'm gonna read up more later on this "weight loss" issue to inform you eGO members further lol

From Wikipedia: The Sedlec Ossuary (Czech: kostnice Sedlec) is a small Roman Catholic chapel, located beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints (Czech: Hřbitovn? kostel Všech Svat?ch) in Sedlec, a suburb of Kutn? Hora in the Czech Republic. The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people, many of whom have had their bones artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel.

Basically what happened is that there was a church where the buried tens of thousands of plague victims. Then for some reason, this guy decided to decorate the church with their bones. Fun!
 
How about Aokigahara, the Japanese "Suicide Forest"? It's got the second-highest rate of suicides in the world, next to the Golden Gate Bridge, but is not ... ahem ... maintained as regularly, so it's full of corpses literally hanging around.

Some pretty creepy place here......I don't know how long I would last walking around some of these places.

Going to New Mexico in july for a week with my bro and sis in law. There is an old cemetery right down the way from where we are staying. people who live around there do not like to go by it at all stating that it is very active with "weird stuff goes on around that place". I'm going to wonder around there afew nights and see if I can capture anything on camera or get any personal experiences.


*yes, I like watching those Ghost shows, and will be running a digital recorder for possible evp's* :P
 
My grandpa has something like this on his shed actually. :s
