GTX 470 and 480 reviews are out

so it performs slightly better than the 5870 (significantly only on games that favour nvidia), uses a lot more power, has a much higher temp, and cost $100 more....and had what, 6 months more development time???
i apologize if im not impressed...in the least
 
Beastly for folding and tesselation. Real world gaming doesn't look so hot though. Especially for the price it doesn't.

Theres still a market for these cards though. I have to say though, the heatsinks/coolers are sick, especially for stock cards.

yes, but 480(or 448 for the 470) stream processors it will kick ass at gpu compute apps like folding.
 
that may be - and congrats to them

they are awesome, AWESOME looking cards tho - and they are not as pricey as i thought they'd be...they'll stay competitive

The heatsinks on the cards certainly the best stock cooling solution I've ever seen.

Just make sure you don't touch it. I've heard they tend to be a little "spicy" :P
 
Doesn't look like they're worth it... for the power and heat that they put out compared to the 58XX series for a few more FPS just isnt worth it...

Yea, the performance in games doesn't seem to be as amazing as they were saying it was going to be.

Seems to perform only a tiny bit better than the 5870 which came out like half a year earlier lol
 
According to the MaxPC article, the 480 stomps the 5970 at tessellation (a big feature of DX11). So i think that the 480 might be a better card once DX11 matures
 
Yea, the Fermi cards are beast at tessellation. Really heavy tessellation for a matter of fact. We'll have to wait a bit more i guess.
 
I agree... With you all . Was expecting a bit better numbers , only thing that really seems to rock is 480's SLI as well as the tessellation factor. And as fellow folders already know, it will definitely do some damage at it. I had tucked away some dough for these babies, looks like i might be better off holding on to my 260 until im convinced otherwise.

At the temps mentioned in reviews, would a future "495" even be possible? What im really looking forward to is actual user/consumer reviews .

While temperatures are of major concern, the bigger problem is that the card already uses 250 watts at max load. The highest spec PCIe card that ATI or nvidia can make is 300 watts. AMD's HD 5970 uses about 290-watts.

Nvidia would have to do some serious refinement of their cards if they wanted to do a dual-GPU solution for Fermi. There's no way they can keep such a card under 300 watts.

In short, the answer to your question is no. It's not currently possible due to power restrictions.
