OK this is really starting to bug me. I just recently download 3dmark6. and ran the test after a reboot. And the results wasn't too pleasing.

Yea. thats. LOW!

So. before I got my gtx 280, which was a few months back, i ha a geforce 8800 gt superclock (which i gave to my pal after i got the gtx).
This was the result.

really? the results aren't very different. Maybe its because my mobo is pci express 1.0. maybe my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu. yea, but really? 11k? thats sad if u ask me. So, is it windows 7 thats causing the prob? i dont think so. something is wrong here.

I don't think your CPU is bottlenecking your CPU. What are your specs? It might be your RAM.

Lol. I would overclock that cpu, for two reasons
1. I've heard that c2d's overclock well
2. To prevent any bottlenecking
But do list your other specs

I've heard that the e8400 will even bottleneck the 280s, so definitely try to get it to at least 3ghz.

oh sorry I should of posted my specs before.

Processor: Intel? Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz
Memory: 4 GB DDR2
Video Card: NVIDIA ? GeForce? GTX 280

Lol fail. No offense.
It's just that e8400's are stock at 3Ghz

He means overclock the Duo 6700 to 3.0GHz which is the rate of the e8400.

Overclocking wont fix all his issues. Unlike the e8400 the Duo 6700 only supports 2MB of L2 Cache at 1066MHz FSB and 65nm process where as the e8400 has 6MB of L2 Cache at 1333MHz FSB and 45nm process.

EDIT: To add on to what i wrote earlier more research revealed a higher multiplier on the e8400 at x8 and a memory divider of 4. The 6700 has a multiplier of x6 and memory divider of 3.

So he needs to take all of this into account.
My opinion is that the processor is the bottleneck of your system from the info i have, however, the RAM may be to blame as well. Depending on the bus speed of the RAM and the timings if you are at 800MHz DDR2 you should be sitting pretty, 667MHz is still decent, anything below that will also bottleneck the GTX280.

how would i check my RAM speed. And I was able to oc my cpu to 2.93 ghZ. It wouldn't go past the 3ghz mark though.

Typically all bus speeds can be found in the BIOS, however some programs will tell you the speeds as well. CPUz will tell you, however you need to be able to know how to read it.

Best bet is the BIOS.

Stop freaking out. 3DMark really dosen't show real world application. It's pretty much ALL CPU, your GPU plays a very small role in it. The reason your score is so low is that low clocked dual core.

Your score is fine.

I don''t think that the CPU is bottlenecking that badly, it might be, but i doubt it. What drivers are you using? nVidia has been having some issues with that lately.
