Odd problems with new monitor

Ok, so I decided my 26 inch wide 15.6 inch tall HD flat-screen would make a good monitor. Oddly, hooking it up gave me LESS desktop space (the icons are bigger and not just to-scale bigger.

Also, TF2 crashes unless I run in a window via -windowed command line and THEN pick 'full screen' from there.

My biggest (and recomended) desktop setting is 1360x768.

How can I give myself more desktop space and fix TF2? Do I need to plug it in via something other than VGA? Because that's what my TV's display needs to be set too to show my PC.

Then you just have a 720p TV. What was the resolution of your monitor?

I guess I didn't really answer your question.
There is no way to increase your desktop space.
And as for TF2, I believe you have to change the settings to where it starts in your resolution.

Umm..How can I tell what rez my TV is? All the logos say ATI, HDTV, ATSC, HDMI, HD Bulit-In, etc

I had a 1080p TV, and the only way I could actually increase my resolution past 1360 x 768 was to use a HDMI cable.


but other then that, you usually lose screen space on a TV, when a TV claims high Definition, it's barely catching up to what actual PC monitors have been able to do for a while


I went from a 24" monitor to a 40" HD TV back to a 24" PC monitor... I should have never bought that TV. Not only is the resolutions usually smaller, but the pixel pitch is horrid and it pretty much kills most of the sharpness

Using the HDMI cable with f up the picture if you push it past it's native res. I have an HDTV that is 720p but can go up to 1080i only with an HDMI cable. I would not recommend it. And, IIRC it only runs at like 30Hz. Which is nty.
Your best course of action is to buy a new monitor if you absolutely need the extra desktop real estate.

Yeah, you'll definitely get more space on a monitor. Most 21" and up monitors have a native of 1680x1050 and up. Another thing you can look at is adding a second screen if you have the space and your graphics card(s) is(are) capable.

Damn. May as well go back to my old monitor then. This is epic..but I like the good sizing with my old monitor.
