I was planning on getting an Alienware laptop so I can use it for mobile gaming and "classwork"

I didn't go out and click on the most expensive things because I'm sorta on a budget of $2,000.

PROCESSOR Overclockable Intel? Pentium? Core?2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows? 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
MEMORY 2GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz
HARD DRIVE 160GB SATAII 5,400RPM

is it a good set up so far for that kind of budget?
if not, I'm open to suggestions

Get a normal labtop, for the price of the M11X you could get a decent desktop and portable machine.

I dont know much about the m11 but the m17x I bought is just pure amazing I only use it for school work as of right now and I say any alienware is worth it

Alienware systems are really excellent, fine-tuned machines. That being said, they come at quite a high price, so if you know how to make your own, I'd recommend you do that instead.

For a budget that high, you can get WAY better

Alienware = DELL

It's like you're buying a Lexus when you should just go with the Toyota... Because the Toyota MEETS YOUR NEEDS!

Always remember: Upgrading laptops - ESPECIALLY those in the netbook range - is pretty much impossible (beyond RAM).

For $2K you can get A LOT done if you go with a barebones laptop kit (or not, since it seems that your knowledge of components isn't razer sharp)...

A Few Simple Questions:

What do you NEED to do with the laptop?

What do you WANT to do with the laptop?

How long do you expect it's 'lifetime' to be?

And the last question is budget - Which you've already said is <$2,000.00USD

I've been building and programming computers since I was 6. I've worked as Microsoft/Intel/AMD liaison for Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Staples, etc. I know computers like the back of my hand - and the retail system and RETAIL MARKUPS.

Answer my questions and I'll find you a killer deal!

Really Sniper?
I see in your sig, you only got your 930 to 3.28. Why not get 4Ghz?

Because I broke my phase change system and need to buy a new one... :(

AND because it's on the OEM fan and I don't want to break the entire rig quite yet (and the Mobo and CPU were $630USD).

AND AND unlike others who just try to show off with overclocking, I overclock to where I need it (CS4 Master Collection & Games) and I don't stress the chip until I really NEED to. ;)

LABTOP
Anywhoozles, I would look at the Macbook Pro. Now, I understand that's ludicrous to most of you but it's not to bad. Most Source games have been ported really well, and the battery life of the Macbook's make them great computers for school especially campuses.

Oh. Lol owned.
For $630 you got owned with your broken phase change.
And at 3.2 as compared to 2.8 w/ Turbo, I doubt there is a real difference.

Back to topic? ;)

The point of this thread is to assist a fellow member with a purchase. Not why I haven't fried my computer like some other kids think is cool to do. :glare:

Oh and a direct bolt of lightning is very effective at frying any surge protection you have - and anything attached to it... Like a phase change unit - and the computer attached to it...

Overclocking won't fry your computer. Overvolting will.
Yes, back to topic. What was the the topic again? Lol
That's right, M11x.
If you want a netbook, get an ASUS Eee or whatever, they're pretty good. It can play l4d at medium settings with mid 40's fps.
But don't buy the M11x, it's overpriced, especially for a netbook.

I haven't been looking at laptops in a long time but for $2k you could seriously get a much much better rig that than.

I wouldn't buy that if my life depended on it...... well.......maybe......I suppose.

I would love to start a laptop from the ground up, but like sniper said, my knowledge about how to build computers isn't that good, but if you guys could help me out with all the stuff that is best for that kind of budget, i would greatly appreciate it.

Laptops are difficult to build...

If you have a $2000 budget, I'd get a mac with parallel's

I've never been a big Mac fan, but if i found something that could multi-task for gaming and schooling, I'd possibly think about getting one.

I just love the battery life on Apple's products. Plus the inter switchable graphics from integrated to separate within the OS is awesome.

IMHO for 2k go buy a 500 dollar laptop that will get all your needs done ever. and then buy an awesome gaming desktop for 1,500.
